'Owlet View' is a practical, well furnished and comfortable self-catering apartment which is located on the 1st floor of a small building containing 7 apartments overlooking the recently renovated church square of Betalbatim Village. It is ideal for an independent discerning couple wishing to combine a beach holiday with self-catering and visiting some of the many attractions of South Goa. Situated in the heart of South Goa, this location offers much greater peace and tranquillity compared to the buzz of North Goa and is an ideal centre from which to explore the South. Information and assistance is available from the British owners who live above the apartment on the second floor.

Prices are for the property per week in UK pounds.
We offer 10% discount for lets of 3 weeks or longer and 20% discount for lets of 5 weeks or longer. Prices include gas, electricity and twice-weekly cleaning.
Changeover day
Our normal changeover day is Saturday but occasionally can be flexible if other bookings permit. The apartment must be vacated by 0900 and new arrivals can obtain access from 1400.

Notes on accommodation
The bedroom is fitted with air-conditioning and all rooms have ceiling-fans. The accommodation is not suitable for small children. The apartment is for a maximum of 2 persons. Smoking is not permitted inside the apartment.
Accessibility
'Owlet View' is situated on the first-floor and access is via a communal staircase with three short flights of tiled stairs. It is not suitable for wheelchair users.
Coast/Beach
The beach is 2km along quiet roads. Walking time is 20-30 minutes and driving time 5 minutes. There is an excellent quiet shack at the local beach with drinks, food and sunbeds. The nearest beach access is located between Colva and Majorda and visitors can walk or cycle north or south along the palm-fringed beach for its entire 26km length. Lifeguards were introduced in 2008. Some water-sports are available at Colva or Majorda.
Travel
Goa Airport (Dabolim) with direct internal flights to main Indian airports, many International chartered flights and now direct scheduled International flights with Qatar Airways via Doha is 15km away and takes around 30 minutes in a taxi. Pre-paid taxis are available (24/7) at reasonable cost outside the terminal building. Margao Railway Station is 10km and there are regular direct trains to Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Cochin and Trivandrum as well as connecting services to all Indian destinations.
Distances
Betalbatim is 7km from Margao (local bus service every 15 minutes), 35km from Goa's capital, Panjim and 4km from both Colva and Majorda. Other places of interest include Palolem beach (50km), Gulgibarga turtle beach (60km), Dudhsagar Waterfalls (75km), Old Goa (50km), Cabo di Rama fort (40km), Mapusa market (45 km) and the North Goan resorts and beaches(from 50km). Inland, Goa also has interesting temples, wildlife sanctuaries and spice-farms which can easily be visited on day trips.
Further details
Situated on the ground floor of Marcal Residency guests will find a laundry/tailor, an internet cafe also offering motorbike hire and two fast-food restaurants (South Indian and Chinese). There are general stores, a baker, a pharmacy, a hairdresser, a beautician, a wine-store, a vegetable stall, a travel agent and a local bank in Betalbatim village. The nearest western-style supermarket is in Colva. Doctors and Dentists can also be found in Colva. The nearest ATMs which accept Visa and Mastercards are in Colva where visitors can also exchange Cash and Travellers Cheques. Fresh meat, fish and vegetables are available near the church in Colva or a much greater selection from the large main market on the outskirts of Margao. Margao is an excellent centre for other shopping including materials, clothes, shoes, souvenirs/gifts and spices. The so-called new market in the centre of Margao is a fascinating place to visit. There are some restaurants in Betalbatim village and many more in and around both Colva and Majorda which cater for all tastes and pockets. Bicycles, motor-scooters/motorbikes and cars are all available for rent locally at reasonable cost. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are also available and a car with driver is the perhaps the best way of visiting the further away attractions of Goa. Betalbatim is on the bus-route from Margao to Majorda with buses every 15 minutes during the day. There is an English Mass at Betalbatim church every Sunday at 0915. There is good mobile phone reception in Betalbatim and the surrounding area. It is much more economical to use a pre-paid Indian SIM Card, obtainable in the village, if your mobile phone will accept one. The apartment gets its name from the tiny owlets which frequent the church square and which can sometimes be seen and heard at dusk and at dawn.
Booking notes
A booking deposit of 50% should be made to confirm bookings with the balance payable eight weeks before the start date. If the booking is made within 8 weeks of the start date the full amount is payable. Payments should be made by direct transfer to the owner's UK account - details available at the time of booking. A 50% refund will be made on deposits if a booking is cancelled up to four months before the start date. No refunds on deposits for cancellations within four months of the start date.

About the owner
I live with my wife Sheila in our apartment immediately above the property in Marshall Residency, Betalbatim. We are both essentially retired(an academic and a nurse) and spend 9-10 months every year in India, based in South Goa but travelling widely throughout the sub-continent. We keep three dogs (2 cocker spaniels and 1 Lhasa Apso) and walk them daily on one of the great local beaches. I also design precious jewellery.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We bought the property in Betalbatim because we wanted to be based in South Goa and did not want to buy where we would be surrounded by a lot of other ex-pats. We prefer to keep as close as we can to the Indian way of life and we find we can do this in Betalbatim whilst taking advantage of the easy accessibility by air, rail and road, and the good amenities the area offers. South Goa is also a lot more tranquil than the North, which is more acceptable for people of our age. It also has superb beaches. We can buy all our normal supplies in either the village or in Margao(7 km) with only a very occasional trip to Panjim.
Unique benefits of the property
The apartment is located in the Church Square, very close to the centre of the village and is one of only seven apartments in the Residency Block. Five are owned by Indians and two by British. Here you can escape from the dominance of other tourists which is prevalent in most hotels and many Holiday Complexes and enjoy being closer to the real India. You can get most supplies in the village where there are also plenty of restaurants and fast food outlets. It is very easy to rent a motor-scooter or a bicycle at reasonable cost and this would allow you to access different areas and attractions of Goa in a very independent way. The fabulous beach is about twenty minutes walking time away. We are also happy to share for your own benefit our own experience in Goa and the rest of India.
