This traditional newly built Kerala style property ‘Coconut Palms’ faces the Arabian sea and overlooks the backwater to the rear, It has sea view from the first floor bedroom/balcony. It has a lovely walled garden surrounded by coconut trees. Secure village location amongst very friendly local people. There are very few beaches in Kerala that compare with the cleanliness and beauty of this sandy beach, it is very calm and ideal for swimming and dolphins have been spotted here. Deck chairs with sheltered area on the beach will be available for use. Cherai is a typical Kerala village and is well known for a variety of locally caught fresh sea food and the country liquor called toddy. Village shop and restaurants are within walking distance. Cochin international airport is 35 mins away. Bikes/car/boat hire can be arranged, also overnight trip on a house boat and trips to the wild life sanctuary, spice plantations, elephant rides also can all be arranged.

Coast/Beach
The villa has a unique position, the clean sandy beach is virtually on the doorstep. You can choose either to enjoy swimming or sunbathing on this peaceful, clean and calm beach, (deck chairs available), or you can choose to hire a boat and enjoy a pleasant and tranquil trip through the winding scenic backwaters.
Travel
Cochin international airport is 20km away, it takes 35 mins approx. Airport transfers can be arranged.
Distances
Have a relaxing Ayurvedic massage at the nearby Cherai Beach Resort 5 mins walk, their Ayurvedic centre is manned by experienced masseurs. There is also a cafe on Cherai beach road, where you can taste the best sea food and traditional Kerala food at a very reasonable rate of £2 per head approx. You can also hire a bike to get a glimpse of a typical Kerala village, visit the harbour to buy some fresh catch of the day or visit the local temple.
Further details
ATMs, pharmacy, supermarket, post office, Banks and other local shops are about 5km away at the nearby town called Parur. Taxis and autorickshaws are readily available everywhere and the caretaker can arrange this for you. Cochin city is 30kms away, there you may be interested in visiting the following places:
the Chinese fishing nets - watch the fishermen bring in their catch. Here you can buy fresh sea food and have them cooked for you to your liking.
Jewtown - the synagogue dates back to the 17th century, here there are numerous antique shops selling Indian handicrafts/arts and curios, it is one of the most spectacular sights in the whole region of Kerala and is certainly worth a visit.
St Francis Church - The only Protestant church in the southern Indian region was built in 1510 by the Portuguese.
Willingdon Island - It is a beautiful man made island.
Vypeen and Gundu islands - offer tourists the chance for a day’s outing with daily ferry shuttles from Fort Cochin. Vypeen Island is home to the port’s main lighthouse.
A short trip across the tiny Gundu island offers a glimpse at the production process of the coir factory, where coconut fibre is utilised in the production of doormats.
Palliport fort - This is a ruin dating back to the 16th century.
Caretaker can also arrange overnight trips on the houseboat and trips to the Periyar wild life Sanctuary, spice plantations and Elephant rides. Alternatively if you prefer to just relax on the beach and try out some traditional Kerala food, you can also try the nearby multi cuisine restaurant at Cherai Beach Resort, they serve buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner at a very reasonable price. Water Scooter and Speed Boats are available for hire. Cherai town is 10 mins walk away and here you can find small local shops, bank and Holiday hotel that has a bar and restaurants. Cook can be arranged, payable locally.
