Notes on accommodation
The apartment is fully centrally heated but has no air-conditioning, there are two floor standing electric fans. In the interests of all wishing to use the apartment, this accommodation is strictly no smoking and we are unable to accept pets. The apartment is also not suitable for children under 10 years old. Strictly no hen or stag parties.

Accessibility
There are no special adaptations in the apartment but we have had one lady with limited mobility, who often used a wheelchair, staying at the apartment with a friend. She said she managed well but could not have managed on her own. There are 10 steps up to the lift, but the steps have a hand rail and once out of the lift, the corridor around the courtyard is wide. The doors in the apartment (apart from the one into the en-suite bathroom) are also wide enough for a wheel chair.

Special interest holidays
With so many concerts and opera performances, Budapest is the perfect holiday for the music lover. Arts and culture are very important to the Hungarian people and there are many wonderful musical events throughout the city. The apartment was specially selected for its proximity to the opera house, as we come from the world of opera and classical music. If you would like any advice on selecting and booking your tickets for events at the opera house, please contact us - we will be happy to help.

Travel
Budapest's Ferihegy airport is 30 mins drive away, and our English speaking taxi driver will pick you up, take you up to the apartment and give you the keys. There are international rail and bus stations, or you can also travel to Budapest by hydrofoil on the Danube from Vienna. There is car hire available in the grounds of the Marriot hotel which is a 10 minute walk away from the apartment.

Distances
The nearest supermarket is a 3 min walk away and there is also an indoor market within a 10 min walk, which sells all kinds of excellent fresh produce. The best and oldest strudel shop in Budapest is also just around the corner, where you can actually watch them make the strudels! The apartment is within the banking district of Budapest so cash points are not a problem.

Further details
Our apartment block in Nador Utca was built in 1861 and designed by the same architect that built the Basilica - the famous Joseph Hild. It has been renovated on the outside, and just recently, the grand and classically arched inner courtyard has been completely restored.

Guest comments
Hi Bridgett, we really enjoyed exploring Budapest and we had a fantastic time it was everything we wanted and more! The apartment is absolutely beautiful, so comfortable and luxurious and such a good location. Also thank you for the wine which got us off to a great start! Attila was really efficient and helpful. Everything went fine at the apartment and the guide books there were really helpful. If you need a personal recommendation we would be more than happy to share what excellent accommodation and service we received. Victoria UK.
Dear Bridgett, we had a wonderful time in Budapest. The apartment exceeded our expectation and was very comfortable. The location could not be better and we were in easy reach of all the places we wanted to see. Attilla was waiting for us at the airport and gave us a very warm welcome and was a mine of information on Budapest. The local shops were very close and convenient. The tomatoes were some of the tastiest I have had in a long time! (Diane UK).

About the owner
Myself (Bridgett Gill) and my partner (Brendan Wheatley) are in our late fifties and involved in the world of opera. We run Swansea City Opera, a mid scale opera company which tours all over the UK, and also Opera Box, well known for its smaller shows and outdoor performances of opera. Both are registered charities. The history, culture and love of music of the Hungarian people were a great influencing factor in our decision to buy a classical apartment in Budapest. We were looking for an investment for our retirement and had planned to visit three countries before making our choice, but after seeing the beauty of Budapest and finding the Hungarian people so friendly and welcoming, we decided to look no further. We hope you love the city us much as we do!

Year purchased: 2006

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Because we live in a very old cottage in Wales and love historic houses, we were looking for a building and apartment that had history and original features. We think we have found the perfect apartment and have completely renovated and restored it with a lot of love and thought. As well as being in a beautiful building, designed by Budapest's second most famous architect -Joseph Hild, the apartment is close to all forms of public transport, and central to all the tourist attractions and the Opera House. In addition, because we love good food and wine, we chose a location with good restaurants close by! By the way I can heartily recommend Hungarian wine, not a lot of it is sold abroad as they keep most of it for themselves!

Unique benefits of the property
We took our time over renovating our apartment because we wanted to preserve the old Hungarian character whilst having all the advantages of modern living. We explored the fascinating antique come flea market on the outskirts of Budapest, called Ecseri, where we found our original light fittings and door handles, and visited many auction houses to buy original pictures and furniture that we then restored. When we bought our apartment in 2007 the courtyard and grand, classically arched interior of the house were still in a rather dilapidated state, but I am writing this in December 2009 and the courtyard is now completely restored and redecorated. It looks fantastic and I know I shouldn't, but I feel very proud!
