The Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to give it its full title, is a
country occupying an area of south-eastern Europe that covers approximately
51,000 sq kms. Sharing borders with Croatia to the north, Serbia to the
south and west and Montenegro to the east, Bosnia Herzegovina can boast a
full 20 km of Adriatic coastline despite being virtually surrounded, and its
wide diversity of landscapes coupled with a rapidly growing interest in the
country as a tourist destination has meant a rise in quality holiday
accommodation in Bosnia Herzegovina as a whole, not just in the capital city
of Sarajevo.
At a point where three ecological zones converge, the Dinaric Alps play a
significant role in the geographical profile of Bosnia Herzegovina,
dominating the country's southern and central territories while plains and
plateaux occupy the northern regions. Maglic, in Herzegovina, marks the
highest point at 2385m, the lowest point being along the Adriatic shore, and
because of this contrast in landscapes and the richness of flora and fauna
which they support, Bosnia Herzegovina attracts visitors from all over the
world eager to experience a relatively un-discovered, and as of yet
unspoilt, holiday destination.
Due to its situation, Bosnia Herzegovina can expect hot summers and
chilly winters in keeping with a typically European climate that is touched
by a hint of the Mediterranean. Both summer and winter weather can be
extreme adding to the country's overall appeal, especially as a destination
for a skiing holiday in the Dinaric Alps - a location that can rival some of
the finest skiing resorts in Europe. A popular summer alternative can be
found by renting a
holiday apartment in Herzegovina from where you can tour
the region and explore exciting and historically important towns like Vitina,
Sarajevo and Mostar as well as experience local traditions and cultures that
are still unaffected by the less agreeable aspects of a modern tourist
industry - for the time being at least!
