Haute Saone holiday gites are set in a department towards the north of the Franche-Comte region. This part of the country is favoured by anyone with a passion for the outdoors and dramatic hilly landscapes – the eastern part of the department is home to the Ballons des Vosges Regional Park, which is one of the largest of its kind in France and a great place to visit during your stay at an Haute Saone cottage. It’s home to a stunning diversity of wildlife and a great place for an adventure; mountain biking and paragliding are two of the most popular activities here, while the peaks of the hills are often covered with snow until summer. A little way south of Haute Saone self-catering accommodation is the old university town of Besancon, which sits in an upland setting and boasts a history going back to Roman times.

Haute Saone holiday rentals are in a great location if you’d like to explore some of France’s highlights. Cote d’Or is just next-door, and is where many of the country’s best wines are produced. The place to go to sample the region’s wine culture is Beaune, no more than 45 minutes from Haute Saone self-catering gites. This town, noted also for its beautiful architecture, is where a famous annual charity wine auction takes place – an event that dates back more than 150 years. Head south from Haute Saone holiday cottages and you’ll to the beautiful town of Dole, birthplace of Louis Pasteur. This was the main seat of power for the region until the 15th Century, and around the old streets here you’ll be able to find a host of clues to Dole’s ancient hegemony.

Weather

In a region noted for its upland scenery, the weather you’ll experience at an Haute Saone cottage depends very much on your elevation. Either way, summers tend to be hot with plenty of sun from June to September.

Best Time to Visit

The Jura Mountains are not far from Haute Saone self-catering holiday rentals, which means that it might be worth arriving here for a winter break.

Reaching Haute Saone
