Villa Petalutha is located on the outskirts of the traditional mountain village of Spartilas. Nestling beneath the imposing Mount Pantokrator, it offers privacy and seclusion, yet is only 5 minutes drive or 10 minutes scenic walk to the village. The popular resort of Barbati, with beautifully clear water and safe swimming, is 15 minutes drive away. The airport and cosmopolitan Corfu town, a world heritage site, are 40 minutes drive. The area is one of outstanding natural beauty; a peaceful haven for wildlife, including eagles, lizards and butterflies, from which the villa takes its name. Set in its own olive grove and blending superbly with its surroundings, this luxurious villa is built to a high specification. It's unique split level design was inspired by the natural terraces of the hillside and maximises the breathtaking 180 degree views of the beautiful east coast bays, Corfu town, the spectacular mountains of central Corfu and the glorious sunsets of the west coast.

Accessibility
Villa Petalutha has both internal and external steps and is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users.

Outside
Villa Petalutha sits in 2500 sqm of olive grove. The grounds have been sympathetically landscaped to retain a natural feel, enabling guests to explore the unspoilt terraces beyond the pool. The large south-facing, partially shaded, roof terrace accessed from the living area is a fantastic place to relax and admire the views. There are also shaded end terraces adjacent to the kitchen and internal lounge ideal for sunrise and sunset views. Each of these provides varied opportunities for rest and relaxation, whether you are looking for peace and seclusion or social interaction. Each has a glorious view for quiet contemplation. The 3 main bedrooms all have balconies with fabulous views. The barbecue terrace with large stone BBQ offers a lovely space to dine, leading down to the pool and natural olive grove with hammock. The irregular shaped horizon pool is a generous 50 sq. metres with underwater lighting. There are attractive areas of decking and terracing with natural shade for sunbeds.

Coast/Beach
Corfu is blessed with many beautiful bays with crystal clear waters and safe swimming. The lovely white pebble beach of Barbati is just 6km away. From here, as with several of the north east beaches, you can hire a small boat or enjoy a range of water sports. Driving north from Barbati, there are pretty coves with lovely beaches to explore, some that are only accessible by boat, offering greater seclusion.
If sandy beaches are preferred, these are along the north or west coast 30 mins away.

Golf
The nearest golf course in the Ropa Valley is a 30 minute drive away.

Further details
Spartilas has a bakery, opening every morning for fresh bread, mini market for essentials, a well stocked pharmacy, 2 traditional bars where locals meet, a snack bar and a cafe. It has remained unspoilt by tourism and has a charm of its own. There is an abundance of eating places to discover along the coastline or further inland in the traditional villages, including several excellent tavernas within 10 minutes drive of the villa. For a special evening, take a free boat taxi from Kalami bay and experience the delights of the coastline at night, arriving at any one of the famous and ever popular tavernas of Agni bay. Alternatively, book a boat trip to Corfu town for the evening and soak up the Greek culture with a walk along the Liston followed by a meal. For those who prefer to cook and dine at the villa, we have provided an extensive range of cookware and utensils. There are many large supermarkets along the main coastal road and excellent butchers near Ipsos. There is a very good fish market held daily in Corfu town near the old fort. With its Venetian influence, Corfu town is a fascinating place to visit, especially the old town, filled with tiny alleyways and artisan shops spilling onto the cobbles. The famous Liston is most atmospheric in the cool of the evening, where you can shop for leather goods, local crafts, and jewellery or enjoy a coffee and soak up the culture. There are beautiful churches, often hidden away, and interesting museums and ruins to visit. For water lovers, there are two large water parks on the island, both within 30 minutes drive of the villa. One is in Acharavi on the north coast and the other is inland at Agios Ioannis. If you are interested in horse riding, there are several English speaking stables within reach of the villa. The nearest ATM for cash is along the coast road at Ipsos 7km.

Owner profile

About the owner
My husband David and I live in the Chew Valley near Bristol. I am a primary school teacher and my husband is a retired BT manager. We have three children; two boys in their twenties and a teenage daughter. We have always enjoyed family holidays together and we first came to Corfu in 1999. We loved the crystal clear waters, the tiny pebble beaches and the spectacular mountains that roll down to the sea. We have stayed in more exotic locations but always return to Corfu as our preferred destination. It has always been my dream to have our own villa on the island and now that dream has been realised. Our villa is in a magical location and has been superbly landscaped by Harvey Johnson, who is a prize-winning builder in the UK. It will delight all who visit.

Year purchased: 2009

Why the owner chose a house / villa (old name) in this location
Corfu is a delightful island that has something for everyone. We spent months searching for a plot of land in exactly the right location;away from the busy tourist resorts yet within reach of our favourite beaches, no more than 45 minutes drive from the airport and keeping Corfu town easily accessible. We wanted the dramatic and interesting views that only a mountain location can give but still wanted to be near a village community. Peace and tranquility was high on the list. When we first visited our plot of land, it was filled with beautiful wild flowers that attracted a host of brightly coloured butterflies (petalutha). The only sounds were the cicadas, the church bell and the bleat of a wild goat and then we saw the views...we knew that this was where we wanted to build our villa.

Unique benefits of the property
Having stayed in many holiday villas we knew exactly what we wanted to provide in ours. We have spent a long time choosing good quality furniture, most of which has come from England. We have bought pocket sprung mattresses and egyptian cotton sheets and towels to make your stay more comfortable. As I am a keen cook myself, the kitchen has been carefully designed to faciliate use and is extensively equipped, including professional chef's knives, so that cooking a main meal or preparing a light snack is a pleasure. The view can still be enjoyed as you stand at the sink! The ever changing light across the landscape during the day is mesmerising and at night the panorama of bays and the little inland villages become a show of twinkling lights - perfect for evening dining on the roof terrace.
