These 1895 original old village stone houses, restored with environmental materials are set in a quiet, traditional corner of the village of Malona. Just 5 minutes drive from the beautiful golden beach of Agathi, and the pretty harbour of Haraki, the village of Malona has alot to offer in both the summer and the winter. It is an active traditional agricultural village, surrounded by orange, mandarin and olive groves which keep the locals busy all year around. Malona is a small village with little narrow streets, and retains its Greek traditional pace of life. A place where the men of the village sit out in the evenings in the local cafes, and the women sit together in the streets with the children. Many here speak some English after time spent working in America, and you will find them mostly friendly. A 15 minute drive finds you in the beautiful village of Lindos for romantic evenings out, or 5 minutes in the other direction, in the heart of Rhodes 2nd town Archangelos.

Notes on accommodation
Fourno House: Air-conditioned with heat exchange for cooler months, plus 1 standing fan available. Solar heated water with electrical back up. Travel
Rhodes Diagoras International airport is approx 40 km from Malona which takes about 40 minutes. Main harbour/port is in Rhodes town also 40 km away. Car hire is recommended for these houses to access all the local beaches and places of interest, although there is a regular bus service which heads to Lindos and Rhodes town from the village.

Further details
There are a few little local shops in the village, which have pretty well all your basic needs covered. There are also vans that drive around the village daily with fresh fruit, veg, fish and clothes on them, which are great value if you are confident enough to join in! There is a decent sized supermarket on the main road at Archangelos which is only a 5 min drive away. You will also find banks, and all general shops and services here too. There are a few eating places in Malona itself although a better selection can be found in Haraki. The new local sit in or take out Greek souvalaki place is handy and inexpensive. Lindos is where you will find the really active nightlife, with roof top bars and nightclubs.

Guest comments
We had a lovely holiday and very much enjoyed staying in your house and
being in Malona. In fact we recommended it to friends who wanted a holiday
this September (the Jefferies).
Best Wishes
Mick and Shelagh Henderson

1. The house was more than we expected, from the website it was difficult to imagine the layout of the bedrooms, my only criticism was we had to bring a chair down from upstairs for dining, no big deal at all!
2.We found the people of Malona very helpful, very friendly, and most people we came across in Rhodes were the same.As for the village it suited our needs perfectly.
3. Our favourite beach (we went to about 5 or 6 different ones) was definitely Agathi beach, most days we planned to go off the beach at around 12 or 1 oclock but some days we just stayed on and enjoyed the day there.
4.The taverna we dined at the most was El Kapitanos on the front, and we didn't have a bad experience in any places we dined at.
5.We would visit again there is so much to see.

House swap
House swap considered. We are looking for a house suitable for us and our nearly 4yr old son. We are always looking to go to London, Cornwall, Scotland, Holland, Venice, Cyclades islands, Norway, Denmark, Sweden & will consider any other destinations.

Owner profile

Traditional houses R us :o)

About the owner
Hi, I am Clare Lee, the owner and renovator of the two houses here. Our family, Dimitri, our son Ioannis and I live in Rhodes all year round, closer to town, in another traditional house that we also renovated. I am from England and came here to live permanantly 7 years ago, so that I could follow my dream to renovate traditional houses with due care to the environment, traditional methods of building and style. As an Interior designer, you will find the houses are practical, well detailed, and contain everything you need. Apart from being a Mum, and looking after the running of the houses, I am also an independant Yoga teacher. We have been renting these houses for a couple of years now, and people have been most enthusiastic about their experience. We trust you will be too.

Year purchased: 2005

Why the owner chose a home in this location
I bought the houses in Malona as a stepping stone for us to the South of the island as we live near town for work purposes. We love to drive to all the corners of the island and Malona is perfectly situated for this, giving us an easy drive to join friends in Lindos, or to Kiotari for the fresh summer breezes, over to Monolithos for wild views and beaches, or for windsurfing madness down on Prassonisi beach on the far point of the island. Equally we love to sit in Haraki where we never fail to feel like we have arrived on a tiny Greek island somewhere. We enjoy the slow pace of the village and find we are able to relax when we arrive there riding through the village to get fresh bread and things without a crowd in sight.

Unique benefits of the property
Visitors are most thrilled here about the kitchen facilities and the fact that the house is not part of the touristic trail.
