Our house, built five years ago, is situated in an olive grove overlooking the small sandy bay called Ammoudi. The beach is very quiet and from June to September is a turtle nesting ground. Vasilitsi is the nearest village, about 5 minutes drive away, and the picturesque town of Koroni is 15 minutes by car. We spend at least six months a year here in Spring and Autumn and the house is decorated and furnished as our home. The quiet location is ideal for total relaxation whether on the very quiet beach, walking in the surrounding countryside or in the bars and restaurants of nearby Koroni. Those interested in Greek history will find enough within an easy drive to enthrall them and there are beaches nearby that offer surfing and sailing etc. The house has a garage and utility area on the ground floor, bathroom, kitchen sitting room and two bedrooms on the first floor. There is enough outside furniture to enjoy breakfast overlooking the sea or dinner under the stars.

Accessibility
The accommodation is accessed by a flight of steps so would be impracticable for wheelchair users.
Outside
We have a variety of chairs, tables, loungers on the balconies and terrace, which can be arranged to suit your individual needs. Shade is provided by the olive trees around the main terrace. The balcony outside the main living space is roofed offering some respite during the heat of the day.
There are five terraces of olive trees above the house, and you may, if you are lucky, see a tortoise making its way through the grass. There are two terraces below the house, and the washing line stretches between three olive trees on this part of the land. The garden is slowly developing with oranges lemons and pomegranates beginning to flourish. There is a boule court under the trees.
We have a wide assortment of beach toys, ranging from arm bands to masks and flippers. There are also beach mats and at least one beach umbrella. There is a basic barbecue.
Coast/Beach
There are so many beautiful beaches in the area with clear clean water.and we have plenty of leaflets and guide books to help you choose a different one each day !! BUT the best one in our opinion is the one directly below the house. If you go before breakfast in June & July you may well be the first to see the tracks left by the female turtle -- she likes to lay her eggs, all 100 plus, by the light of the moon. Along the coast are a number of beaches which offer wind surfing, sailing etc.
Travel
Flights come into Kalamata on Sundays between May & October, this is just an hour's drive away, along the coast road. You may prefer to have the greater flexibility of daily UK flights to Athens and then drive over the mountains to Koroni. This is a 4 hour drive with stunning views. We will be pleased to help with any car hire, flight or accommodation queries. If you prefer to use public transport we can arrange for you to be met, at the train or bus station.
Distances
Vasilitsi with its excellent restaurant is 5 minutes away and 15 mins away is the port of Koroni with bars, cafes seafront restaurants and a Venetian castle. Along the coast to the west is the magnificent castle at Methoni. Pylos and Navaroni Bay are worth visiting and there are many sandy beaches some of which offer windsurfing etc. The area is full of archaeological sites the best of which is ancient Messini with its huge walls -1 1/2 hours away. Ancient Olympia is about 3 hours drive away.
Further details
Koroni has Banks, Post Office, Pharmacy, Supermarkets, Bakeries, Newsagents and shops to cater for all your needs. There is a fruit and veg market on Sunday morning, shop and then join the locals for an ouzo. Memi beach is a large sandy beach & has all the facilities you might need for a wide range of water sports, windsurfing,sailing & sea kayaking & several tavernas for when you need to recharge your batteries. Cycle and scooter hire is available, you can also go horse riding, or join the local art class down at the harbour.
Locally there are artists, a furniture maker & a wood turner, all of whom are very happy to show you their work
Scuba diving, fishing trips, & boat hire are available at Pylos
The large sandy beaches near Finekounda are ideal for kite flying.
The Mani peninsular is an unusual & striking area to visit if you are staying long enough to take a few days to explore the 'tower houses' & the wild & rocky landscape.
Nafplio & Corinth are well worth stopping off at, especially if you are driving down from Athens, & you could visit the quite spectacular site of Ancient Mycenae with its walls built of massive 'cyclopean blocks'.
This area has wild mountains & a stunning coast, none of it over run by tourists. Local people are welcoming & pleased to share their knowledge with those who are interested.

About the owner
We are a recently retired couple, living in central England far from any sea. We have four children and, to date, three grand children who live close by. After retirement we traveled for a few years, having a belated "gap year" or two visiting most of the countries in Europe including those in the old eastern bloc. Once or twice we found ourselves returning to the UK via Greece and became enchanted with the Southern Peleponnese. To our own surprise we decided in 2007, to buy a house here and have not regretted the decision for one moment since. We still have itchy feet and use the house as a jumping off point for travel in the southern Mediterranean.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The house is well used by our children and grandchildren who just love the freedom of a space without traffic and a child friendly beach.They come whenever school allows them. We are still surprised each year by the spring flowers, and brilliant green grass early in the year. The sea and beach are always changing and the bird life is quite unlike anything we have in The Midlands as is the wildlife. Turtles laying eggs on the beach in mid summer. Tortoises blundering down the terraces. Snakes slow worms and scorpions!! Pine martins weasels and praying mantis. Autumn is the time for the harvesting of our olives. We have 55 trees which we and a succession of friends enjoy picking. Watching the golden olives transform into bright green oil in the local village press is a real pleasure.
Unique benefits of the property
A car is necessary if you are to make the most of what the area has to offer. If your are interested in just doing nothing in peace and quiet, if Ancient Greek history and visiting ruined temples is your bag or Tavernas and restaurants are what you have come for all are in easy reach. Koroni is the nearest town and Vasilitsi the local village with shop and excellent Taverna. The house is not difficult to get to though the track is fairly bumpy when you leave the main road. There are few neighbours and the view to the sea is unobstructed. The little beach below the house is rarely busy (15 people is really busy!) and the beach is sandy the sea clean and clear.
