Notes on accommodation
As the property has several steps it is not suitable for young children. The house has central heating and is available for winter lets.
Accessibility
It is not suitable for wheelchair use because of the numerous steps.
Outside
The house shares a beautiful walled garden. There is a covered area at the front of the house where you can sit. Ample seating is on every floor with a top terrace for sunbathing. The house is kept cool by a sea breeze.
There are two nearby swimming pools owned by small complexes. One is in the hotel opposite the house, the second a short walk up the lane. It is beautifully situated with lovely views.
Coast/Beach
As the sea is close by, the nearest beach is 30 seconds walk. While attracting a share of bathers it is by no means the best beach on the island and is not recommended being in near proximity to the main village. The closest 2 beaches are gems and are 10 minutes by car or 30 minutes walking distance. There is also a regular bus service so car hire is not essential.
Special interest holidays
Skopelos is a paradise for walkers especially in the spring when it is cooler and the island is covered in wild flowers. The island is very green and there are established routes for walkers and a local guide who organises hikes. Otherwise the not too commercialised beaches are excellent.
Travel
The nearest airport is Skiathos and from the local port there you take a ferry or hydrofoil (flying dolphin) to Skopelos which takes about 40-60 minutes. From there the house is a 10 minute walk. A car is not necessary for staying on the island as there is a good bus service and taxis are very friendly.
Distances
10 minutes walk to the main village of Skopelos.
Further details
Good quality restaurants and supermarkets are all within walking distance. Skopelos village has been designated a world heritage site and specialist pottery shops (the island is renowned for the quality) and antique shops can all be found amongst its cobbled streets. The shopping in Skopelos is exciting with little boutiques around every corner. The main waterfront walk has many tavernas and bars nestled amongst the fishing boats, as well as banks with cash point, a medical centre and several chemists. There is also a photographic centre and prestigious exhibitions each year, internet cafes and a bookshop selling English newspapers and books. This island was chosen as the location for the film 'Mamma Mia'.

Guest comments
We had a really wonderful time in Skopelos. The house was even better than we had hoped - really charming, and we loved the different balconies.
We simply adored your house and will be back next year.
Owner profile
About the owner
I have been going to Skopelos for 19 years and adore this beautiful island. My heart still soars when I arrive in the harbour and see the beautiful Venetian town rising up from the sea. I live and work in London and had wanted to buy a house in Skopelos for many years-but it was just a dream really. My children have grown up spending all their summer holidays there and as adults still adore it. I spend most of the summer there as well as other times in the year. Easter is wonderful with the mountains covered in wild flowers and deserted beaches. I enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Skopleos as well as the bustle of the town, spending time with friends I have made there-Greek and English.
Year purchased: 2008
Why the owner chose a home in this location
I bought my house in October 2008. I liked the house as soon as I saw it and it suited me better than the townhouses in the centre of town because of its proximity to the sea, cool breezes and great views across the bay to the town. At the back of the house there are orchards and olive groves, rising up to Palouki mountain, covered in pine trees. The front of the house looks on to the sea and you can sit and watch the ships come in and out of the harbour. The house is delightful and unusual because of the mezzanine floors and terraces. It is typically Skopelitian but lighter and airier. It is very quiet and the 10 minute walk into town along the sea front is delightful.
Unique benefits of the property
The house is one of three set in a pretty, walled garden. Neighbours on either side are Greek and really delightful.
It is in a quiet area away from the motor scooters in the centre of town. It is much cooler than houses in the centre and more easily accessible from the road, which helps when carrying shopping.
Great views of the town, sea and mountains.
