Maypole Villa is a fully air-conditioned, traditional 2 bed bungalow situated on the outskirts of the village of Kokkino Chorio. The villa has its own private pool and is set in a 1/2 acre plot with large covered and open patio areas. There is ample pool and outdoor furniture to enjoy Greek living and the panoramic views of Souda Bay and the White Mountains. A large traditional BBQ and well equipped kitchen means dining out is a joy at home! The spacious lounge is comfortably furnished in traditional style with Satellite TV, DVD + CD players and an iPod docking station. There is also a large selection of books, DVDs and games. The airy bedrooms contain a king size bed in one and twin beds in the other. The villa is just 10 minutes drive to Almirida’s blue flag beach and there is a taverna and mini-market within 5 minutes walking distance. The villa is ideally located to explore the Apokoronos region and surrounding areas

Notes on accommodation
The villa is fully air-conditioned in all main rooms. For the cooler months there is a cast iron log burning stove and fan heaters. Alfresco dining can be enjoyed under the covered pergola or on the front balcony. For entertainment there is Satellite TV, DVD player a portable CD/radio player and an iPod docking station. There are DVDs, reading books, games, guide books and local recommendations for restaurant and places of interest. A safe is provided for your peace of mind.
Accessibility
The villa is positioned on flat landscape though there are 12 steps to negotiate from the car parking area to the property. We have made the grounds secure with gates and fencing. Please contact us if you need further information regarding accessibility.
Outside
The villa stands in half an acre of land. There is a private swimming pool surrounded by a large terrace, equipped with sun beds,parasol etc. The gardens offer plenty of space to play games and explore with some of the area left as nature intended, while others are more cultivated with olive and fruit trees. There is a covered pergola with table and chairs underneath for outside dining when cooking on the large traditional BBQ. Set in a rural location,you can enjoy the amazing views of the sea and of the mountains.
Coast/Beach
Almyrida Bay is just a 10 minute (3 mile) drive from the house. This is a blue flag beach and is very safe for children. Here you can rent kayaks, windsurfs, sailing boats and bicycles. The sea front restaurants and bars are well worth a visit. Kalives is a 15 mins drive away. Larger than Almyrida, it has 3 main stretches of beach. If you prefer a quiet cove there is one just 5 mins drive away, secluded, picturesque and perfect for snorkeling.
Travel
Car hire is essential. The nearest airport is Chania being approx 40 minutes away.

Distance to nearest taverna 500m : 6-8 minutes on foot, 1 minute by car. Distance to nearest beach 4.1km : 40 minutes on foot, 8 minute by car. Distance to nearest mini market 600m : 7-8 minutes on foot, 1 minute by car. Distance to nearest cash machine 4.2m : 40 minutes on foot, 8 minute by car. How far from airport 40 minutes. How far from nearest large town 45 minutes. Heraklion and Knossos is 2 hours away.
Booking notes
To make a booking you can either call or email us via the 'contacts' section. A non-refundable 20% deposit will be necessary to secure your requested dates and needs to be paid within 7 days. The total holiday cost is to be paid in full 6 weeks prior to your departure. Please take out holiday insurance.

I really intended to phone you personally as we were so delighted with everything. The Villa was more comfortable than we even expected and so extremely well equipped, you have thought of everything with some lovely touches. The views were amazing so we spent most evenings enjoying the sunsets with meals outside, we couldn’t have had more relaxing times! Kokkino village was a real surprise as we loved to wander around and use the local shop. It was sad to leave Maypole Villa, we loved it there and although we’ve been to many places in Greece over the years, it was without doubt the best accommodation we have ever had. I live in England with my wife and 2 children who were 13 and 10 when we bought Maypole Villa in 2004. My wife and I both work, but spend most of our holidays in Crete, where we have made many friends and have really fallen in love with the country, especially the local area.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought Maypole Villa in 2004 - the year of the Olympic Games in Athens. Crete is a large island and has something for everyone. The stunning views are what first attracted us to this area and everyone who has visited comments on what a fantastic a location we have. We most enjoy relaxing on our front veranda watching the boats sailing in Souda Bay. The views of the sunset are quite stunning. Our boys love snorkeling and scuba diving and we have swum with turtles in the local cove 5 minutes away. The beaches are clean and safe for families.
