'Kolpos Thea' is a peaceful rural small holiday complex set in an acre of gardens with olive and fig trees and surrounded by further olive groves. It has 2 villas, Villa Elya (sleeps up to 6)is 90 square metres and has a large veranda round 3 sides of the building and wonderful views down to the sea and mountains beyond. Villa Seeka (sleeps 3) is 40 square metres and has two verandas and a fantastic sea and mountain view. There is a 10 x 5m pool, sun bathing area, barbecue and eating areas with a bar, open several evenings a week, and a boules (petanque) area. The property is 1.5kms from 4 tavernas and wonderful sandy beaches, 5 minutes drive from the small fishing town of Petalidi with many shops and 45 minutes drive from the city of Kalamata. We also provide SAILING days aboard our 43ft. yacht Rendezvous which have proved extremely popular with our guests, two centre holidays are also available, with 3 days spent on board the yacht and 4 in the villa.

Notes on prices
20% discount for one bedroom booking villa Elya except July/August. Prices are for the property per week in Euros, if you prefer to pay in Sterling then this is also possible, just contact us to arrange it.
Villa Seeka is available for long or short term rental during the winter- please contact us for prices. €100 Discount for 1 bedroom booking.
Changeover day
In the busy months of July and August we prefer Sunday for changeover day but will be flexible if it's possible. We are completely flexible at other times.
Notes on accommodation
Both villas have ceiling fans in all the rooms except the main living room in Villa Elya which has a large powerful pedestal fan. Children are very welcome in both villas and will enjoy the pool. The two villas are completely discreet from each other and there is ample off-road parking. As the owner's live on site they are always around to help and advise if you need them.
Accessibility
Kolpos Thea is located on a hillside and therefore there are sloping paths and several steps, it would therefore not be suitable for wheelchair users.
Outside
Both villas have large veranda areas furnished with soft seating and dining furniture. There is a swimming pool of 10 x 5m shared between the two villas, with large sunbathing area with sun loungers. There is a barbecue area with tables and chairs and a bar which is open several nights a week. There are gardens around the villas and pool, several fig trees and olive trees. There is also a boules (petanque) area for when you find lying by the pool too exhausting! Around Kolpos Thea there are several country walks all with breathtaking views of the bay and the mountains, also with abundant wild flowers in the spring and autumn. There is a separate entrance to the owner's basement apartment under Villa Elya.
Coast/Beach
Kolpos Thea is 1.5km from the sea and there are 2 or three sandy beaches in the village (Kalamaki). The whole coast of the Messinian county has got to be the richest in beaches that we have seen anywhere in the Mediterranean. Most of them are sandy and very quiet, although there are beaches with bars and sun loungers for those who prefer them.The local beaches are also breeding sites of the rare loggerhead turtles.
Special interest holidays
If you are interested in a low season Olive Harvest holiday in January or February then please contact us directly for further details. This period is great fun with all the activity in the groves and it is wonderful to watch the olives being pressed and the beautiful golden oil pouring out into the vat! This time of year is also the most wonderful for wild flowers, the groves are an emerald carpet studded with colour of the bulbs, plants and orchids.
Travel
There are two airports you can use, Athens is available all year round and is about 3 hours and 45 mins drive. Kalamata airport is 40 minutes away by car and is open from May to October. The ferry port of Patras is about 3 hours drive. It is essential that you have a car for your visit as the nearest shop is in Chrani which is 5 minutes drive. There are buses but there is a 20 minute walk to the bus stop.
Distances
Kolpos Thea is 1.5kms from two villages. 6 kilometres to Petalidi which is a small very attractive fishing town. 30kms to Kalamata, a small city with sea front, marina and harbour with very good shopping and buzzing in the evenings. We are about 20 minutes drive to Koroni, an extremely charming old waterside fishing village with a castle and harbour. We are 45 minutes drive from the wonderful site of Ancient Messini, 40-50 minutes to Methoni and Pylos with their marvellous castles.
Further details
On your arrival day we will cook you a three course meal with wine by the pool, this saves you from the need to go shopping when you have been travelling, or to go out and find a taverna and has proved an extremely popular event with our guests. This is included in the price. We also provide you with a welcome pack with all you need for breakfast the next morning, so that you can simply unpack and relax. This is also included in the price. There are three tavernas in Kalamaki, two beside the sea, the small traditional village of Achladohori further up the mountain from us also has a family run taverna with excellent food- a couple can eat 2 courses with wine here for considerably less than 20€! Petalidi is less than 10 minutes drive and has shops, banks, tavernas, cafes, pharmacy, internet cafe and doctors. Kalamata hospital is 30 minutes drive. There is an excellent small supermarket in Chrani, about 5 minutes drive where you can get most things you might need. The local tavernas serve delicious fresh home-cooked food and Greece is one of the few countries in Europe where you can still eat out, 2 courses plus wine, for less than 10€ a head!!About 20 minutes drive is a quite stunningly beautiful area of small lakes and waterfalls which we highly recommend a visit to. We also offer Sailing Days aboard our 43ft yacht, Rendezvous. The area is ideal for sailing with plenty of anchorages for lunch and swimming and a good breeze in the afternoon for enjoying the sailing. You may even see dolphins and turtles! Booking notes
All bookings must be accompanied by a deposit of 20%. We will invoice you for the balance 4 weeks before your holiday, this can be paid in two ways, either on receipt of the invoice directly into our bank account, or in euros or eurocheque on your arrival. If you wish to make a booking within 4 weeks of arrival, please contact us and we will accommodate you if possible.

About the owner
We are Cliff and Quee Hobbs. We both love the beauty of nature and the outdoors, one of the reasons for moving to the Peloponnese- an outstandingly beautiful area. Our favourite hobbies are sailing and skiing and we have worked for many years as ski and sailing hosts before opening our villas in Greece in 2008.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The Peloponnese is Greece as it was 20 years ago - a low key holiday area with enough holidaymakers in the summer to give it atmosphere but never busy. The scenery is breathtaking- mountains, waterfalls, rivers, lush green countryside and the beaches are second to none that we've seen in the Mediterranean and never crowded. We also have Kalamata marina nearby for our yacht, and in the winter, we can ski in the North, about 3 hours away so a perfect location for us. The climate is great as well- the summers are warm and sunny but seldom severely hot as in other areas of Greece. In the winter we get rain, but that's what makes our countryside so beautiful. We have Kalamata airport just half an hour away for the summer months and Athens for all year round is only 3 1/2 hours away.
Unique benefits of the property
We are superbly placed here for seeing several ancient sites- Messini and Olympia are within easy reach, we also have several medieval castles nearby. Because we are on a 'finger' of land, we have easy access to the beaches on the East, West and south coast of Messinia so loads of choice and the fishing villages are really picturesque. Driving through the nearby mountain villages you feel you've stepped back in time a hundred years!
One of our most popular facilities here at Kolpos Thea is the sailing trips that we offer our guests. They can sail with us for a day or extend that to up to 4 days with 3 nights on board.
We also have a bar and serve food so you don't have to go out if you've got settled in for the evening by the pool.
