Crete is one of the largest islands in the Mediterranean and is also the birthplace of Europe's earliest civilisation, the Minoan, 2000 BC. Almost everywhere that you travel on the island you will come across reminders of its long history. Just a 10 minute drive from Hania and few minutes by car from the resort of Kalamaki and the beach stands Villa Catani, tucked away in beautiful olive groves with lovely views across the countryside towards the coast. It is a three floor stone building. And its unique architectural design centred in allowing free lines of vision: The structure recollects in its aesthetics some of the Cretan traditional architectural characteristics such as: ceramic roof with exposed wooden beams, wooden floors. The novelties are a light well, the main floor's 5m folding glass doors, the upper west bedroom's three-sided glass windows, an open tower with decks at each floor. Extremely spacious inside Catani provides privacy for the larger party.

Notes on prices
Prices are fixed and cover the stay for up to 12 people. Larger parties will pay 100 euros per extra person. Changeover day Saturday or Tuesday. Prices are in Euros and include exclusive rental of your holiday villa, maid service and linen change twice per week, a welcome basket and air conditioning. Price excludes - flights, car rental, swimming towels and off season heating.
Changeover day
Changeover day Thuesday (more charter flights) and Saturday. You can arrive at 13.00, the earliest, and you should departure by 10 pm to allow the cleaning lady time to prepare the house for the next guests.

Notes on accommodation
The design of the house: inside and outside balconies and terraces mean that toddlers and small children will require extra supervision (protection plastic fences can be placed on demand, prior to arrival).
The lift is for the use of guests with mobility difficulties and their assiatants only. It's not allowed to be used by children.
Running and diving is forbidden at the pool, and children must be supervised all the time.
NOTE 1: There is a step to the upper deck, and the portable ramp stops door from being closed.
Accessibility
All entrances are level but the one to the upper deck.
There are two accessible toilets: a roll-in shower at the ground floor and a bathroom at the main floor. Both have 45cm high toilettes, accessible sinks, gripping bars. The bath-lid is 53cm high; all the bedrooms have doors 75 cm wide and room to manoeuvre. Those with twin beds can be 45cm high. A carg lift gives access to all floors. It has 80cm X 110cm free space.
Outside
The house stands on its own grounds amongst olive groves. At the south side a lawn gently slops till the 12m X 3,5m, private pool. There are shaded terraces and a portable barbeque on the ground floor. A dining place under the shade with a tiled table and green plastic chairs by the pool, chaise longues and umbrellas on the sun lounge. A second dining place on the terrace outside the kitchen and a bamboo lounge at the balcony on the main floor. Teak chaise longues and outdoor furniture on the 2 decks.
Coast/Beach
Less than 5 min drive, ~15 min walking is Kato Daratsos. Although it is a small village, it boasts Kalamaki's two sheltered sandy beaches. Close by are numerous beaches: Glaros, Agii Apostoli, Stalos, Platanias.... Ask through email for attached photos or links with tourists information.
Special interest holidays
Katerina, the owner is a painter, and teaches art at the public school. She can give you a course on various subjects: slide shows on art history and workshop, oil painting landscapes, portrait, puppet dolls, masks etc. The course will consist of approximately three hours in the morning or in the afternoon. The course lasts five days and includes workshop materials; The offer is for June, July and August.
Travel
You can fly to Chania airport (18km away from Hania) or to Hereklion airport about 2 and 15' driving (as there are more flights available).
or by ferry boat from Athens (6 - 8 hours, nightover).
A car would be necessary.
Car rental can be arranged.
Distances
Kalamaki resort is less than 5 min drive, ~15 min walking. There are a number of small local supermarkets as well as numerous tavernas scattered along the gently shelving beach. Although only 10 minutes by car to Hania, the countryside is on your doorstep and the pretty little villages of Galatas or Daratsos will give you an authentic taste of rural Crete.
The archaeological sites of Knossos are about 2 hours drive. Again, ask through email for links with tourists information.
Further details
The town Chania, the spiritual capital of Crete, has one of the most photogenic harbours in Greece. The real beauty of this area though lies away from the busier coast and up in the remote villages and hills. Take a trip out to the less well-known areas and you'll be rewarded with a glimpse of a way of life that has remained unchanged for centuries

Booking notes
Reservations guaranteed with a 10% of the cost, another 40% paid 6 months prior to arrival and balance due 60 days prior to arrival.
A deposit security of 1000 euros is required upon arrival, to be refunded before leaving minus any damage done to the property.
Cancellation will have 30% cancellation penalty. If in less than 60 days, the reservation is non-refundable. No-show or earlier departure will have 100% charge. However, we'll try to re-let the property.
