Outside
There are four terraces around the house, providing shade throughout the day. The largest terrace, accessible from the sitting room, has cushion seats and a marble table with a shade canopy, perfect for al fresco eating. It has views across the bay and along the coast to the northern part of the island. There are garden chairs and deckchairs available. There is a parking area next to the house. The house is surrounded by dramatic gardens and an orchard.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is immediately below the house. It is quiet and sandy, secluded and shady, with safe bathing. There is a taverna overlooking the beach. About 10 minutes walk away is the larger beach at Kini, a seaside village with tavernas and cafes along the waterfront. You can also get a boat from Kini to the island's remote and secluded northern beaches. About ½ hour walk along the coast from Kini is the beach of Delphini, which has a naturist section.

Travel
From the UK there are flights to Athens by Olympic and EasyJet. Olympic has internal flights from Athens to the island airport, a short taxi ride from the house. Alternatively you can get a flight to either Athens or Mykonos and then catch a ferry onward to Syros (daily services).

Distances
It is a ten minute walk to Kini, which has local shops, tavernas and cafes, with a bus service to the island capital of Ermoupolis, (about 20 minutes) from where buses serve most of the island villages and beaches. Taxis are plentiful and very reasonably priced. If you want to travel around more, it is best to hire a small car or motor bike. Arrangements can be made for guests to be collected from the port or airport by taxi. Car hire can be arranged.

Further details
The ‘capital’ of the Cyclades, Syros was once the wealthiest and most important trading centre in the Aegean. Unique in having a large Roman Catholic population, it still retains much of its former grandeur in the form of classical town houses and 19th Century buildings and the magnificent Miaoulis Square. Ermoupolis has lots of shops and a busy harbour lined with waterfront cafes and tavernas offering an exciting and vibrant evening atmosphere. There are interesting walks around the town and up to the old town of Ano Syros, with its tiny houses climbing up to the hilltop cathedrals. Away from the busy port, the island has lots of sandy beaches and the largely undeveloped northern part of the island has dramatic mountain scenery. There are many mountain and coastal walks around the island. In addition, Syros has regular boat services to many other islands in the Cyclades including Mykonos and Tinos
