Nestled in a quiet lane in the heart of this magnificent Venetian village, the Iconpainter's House has been lovingly restored to create 4 stylish and spacious studios. Each studio is entered by a private enclosed courtyard with a little splash pool feature. The lower studios have courtyard space of their own whilst the upper studios have large balconies on which to eat or relax. The upper studios also have small balconies overlooking the harbour and fantastic sea and mountain views. The lower studios have the advantage of being cool and shady in the hot summer months. The House is less than 5 minutes walk from the shops and tavernas on the waterfront and the same distance from the world famous Zaga beach, (home of the Loga Turtle). This is a traditional house expertly restored to give light, airy accommodation which is furnished to the highest standard. It has a feeling of ‘Greek with Chic’ about it. There are laundry facilities on site.

Notes on accommodation
All studios have air conditioning although because of the expert renovation of this old, thick walled house, the guest may find no need to use it! The courtyard studios are perfect for families particularly with small children who enjoy hours in the splash pool under the watchful eye of parents! Each studio has its' own private space outdoors either in the courtyard or on the balconies.
Accessibility
Regrettably, this townhouse is not suitable as a holiday destination for those with mobility issues.
Outside
The house is enclosed by a walled, cool and shady courtyard. Ther splash pool is a bonus! The courtyard can be used for BBQ's as can the upper balconies.
Coast/Beach
The world famous Zaga beach (home of the Loga turtle) is literally on the doorstep. 5 minutes walk takes you to this 2-3km stretch of golden sandy beach. Hard to believe but it is never crowded or busy. At one end there are two charming tavernas but for the majority of the beach, there is just endless sand and aqua blue, clear sea. the swimming here is fantastic. There are dozens of other equally wonderful beaches within a 15 minute drive or more.
Travel
Kalamata is the nearest airport about 35km away and about 35 minutes drive. Athens is about 4 hours drive away. The port of Patras from where ferries come daily from Italy is about 3.5 hours drive away. For those not wishing to hire a car, there are excellent bus and train links from Kalamata, Athens and Patras. Car hire here is not essential. For days away, a car is useful and we can recommend a reputable and local company for good rates.
Distances
The studios are in the heart of the picturesque village of Koroni. Everything is at your fingertips! The village climbs the hill and promontory upon which it sits and the studios are nestled in a quiet lane overlooking the harbour. Koroni castle is magnificent as is the quaint ‘Timios Prodromos Convent’ sitting atop the hill. Kalamata is the main town about 40km away and worth a visit to see its' stylishly renovated Venetian style architecture and drink coffee in the classy bars and cafes!
Further details
2 mins takes the guest to the harbour front where there is a large choice of excellent eateries and tavernas. There are shops to buy gifts and crafts made locally and of course, there are newsagents, post office, banks, and a small supermarket. Fish is caught in Koroni every day and there are 2 wonderful fish shops where an amazing selection of fish can be bought. Atop the village is Koroni Castle(once a Venetian Fortress) which is worth a walk to sea the Convent nestling up there and to experience the absolutely breathtaking views over the sea to the mountains beyond.
If the beach is for you, then other than Zaga beach (5 minutes away) there are the beaches of Peroulia and Kombi 4 km north and 5km south, Finikounda. Finikounda is world famous for wind surfing. More isolated and unspoilt (if that is possible) are the beaches of Tsapi and Marathi. Even on summer days you can visit either and find yourself totally alone!
If you like to sightsee, the Koroni is a great base. From there you can head east to Methoni (another Venetian stronghold with a castle), to Pylos to see Nestor's Palace and Pylos Castle relics from the ancient world. Further afield, but still a day trip are Ancient Messini or Olympia. Ancient Messini is one of Greece's best kept secrets. West over the Langada Pass takes the visitor to Byzantine Mystras a magnificent medieval town siiting overlooking the Spartan Plain.
If you love outdoor activity, then there are fabulous walks with unbelievable scenery at your doorstep. The Neda valley is a moderate drive away but has wonderful rock formations and the river flows into the Ionian. The Viros Gorge is a massive gorge from the peak of the Taygetos Mountains to the sea. The walk itself would take you by old abandoned villages and many beautiful churches. There is boat hire at Pylos and windsurfing gear for hire (with or without lessons) at Finikounda.
