Villa Thea sits in its own private, well-maintained and attractive gardens of about one acre. It has four bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities and individual balconies, and a well equipped kitchen, dining and sitting room. Large outside terraces and a stone built barbecue are provided with excellent facilities for secluded open air dining overlooking the calm blue waters of the straits of Corfu to the mountains of mainland Greece and Albania beyond. The surrounding countryside is covered with olive trees, cypress and holm oak and has many attractive walks. The nearby lake is a draw for nature lovers and bird watchers. Gouvia Marina, which is some 10 minutes away by car, attracts many large yachts and powerboats during the summer season which support excellent tavernas in the area and the region is noted for safe sailing so that a number of flotilla sailing companies use Corfu as their base.

Outside
The totally private pool is surrounded by sun terraces and gardens with an abundance of flowers and shrubs. There is a pergola shading one side of the pool terrace and a supply of sun loungers and drinks tables. The pool, which is 8m x 5m, has a maximum depth of 1.8m and is well secluded. It has underwater lighting and there is also external floodlighting around the pool area. Regular pool maintenance is carried out to ensure the cleanliness of the pool. There is a large, stone built barbecue by the terrace for the use of guests. The entrance to the property is through wrought iron gates set in a rustic stone wall backed by oleanders and leads to the gravelled parking area beside the house, which is separated from the lawned area and lemon and orange trees by a rosemary hedge. The main terrace looks out to sea, the islands and the Greek and Albanian mainland beyond.

Coast/Beach
Corfu is noted for its many fine beaches. The sandiest ones are on the west coast but most offer a huge range of watersports; para sailing, wind surfing, scuba diving, waterskiing etc. The nearest to Villa Thea offering all these is just a 10 minute drive away and the beach resorts of Kontokali, Gouvia, Dassia, Ipsos and Barbati are all within a 20 minute drive of the villa. Near enough to be easily accessible for their amenities and nightlife, but far enough to avoid the crowds and bustle.

Golf
Corfu Golf Club, which has a well-regarded 18 hole course, is about a 20 minute drive from the villa, in the Ropa Valley. The Corfu Club’s beautiful course has been praised by many as one of golf’s best kept secrets in Europe. It was designed by the famous Swiss based architect, Donald Harradine and he has blended the natural resources of the lovely Ropa Valley with man made hazards to make the course a good but fair test. It is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one.
It is considered to be among the 19 best championship courses in Europe.

Travel
Corfu Kapodistrias airport is a 25 minutes drive away. The flight time from the UK is about 3 hours. If you are driving from UK, there are ferries available from mainland Italy at Venice, Bari and the shortest crossing from Brindisi is just 6 hours. Ryanair fly to Brindisi from Stansted and AirSea Lines operate a seaplane service from there.
We cannot recommend strongly enough that you pre-order a hire car from the airport so that you can enjoy both the island and the villa to their fullest.

Distances
Corfu town is also 20 minutes away and is a fascinating town to visit with its mix of French and Venetian architecture and the two imposing castles. The Achilleon, Mon Repos and the Archeological Museum are all worth a visit as is the town of Paleocastritsa, on the west coast. None of these are more than 30 minutes away.

Further details
Corfu has a natural beauty with mountainous skylines plunging into the bluest seas, elegant architecture, sunny beaches, enchanting night life, and fine cuisine. The old town of Corfu, dominated by its two fortresses, the old and the “new”, a mere 400 years old, has numerous pavement cafes. Particularly well known is the Liston, where in summer you can sit and watch the cricket while you sip your coffee. There is an abundance of sand, shingle and pebble beaches, leading to clear waters, ideal for swimming or water-sports. Take time to explore the island and you will find spectacular scenery - and a trip to the heart of the island will give you an insight into Corfiot village life which has remained surprisingly unspoilt despite the invasion of Venetians, French and English and Italians over the past 600 years and the more recent tourist invasion from the same countries! There are an plenty of cash machines around the island which are easily recognised in all the main resorts which take all the usual credit and debit cards. However, although credit cards are becoming more commonly used in shops and some supermarkets, it is still quite rare for out-of-town tavernas to accept them. The island's superb climate and modern facilities have attracted many famous people to buy Villas here, including the Rothschild, Agnelli and Abramovitch families and there is a steady flow of British coming to the island to retire which supports an active property market. Despite the recent "credit crunch", Corfu still offers good value for money and guaranteed sunshine during the summer months. The mountain of Pantokrator, in the north of the island and visible from Villa Thea, is the highest point of Corfu and at over 3000 feet is nearly as high as Mount Snowdon! The views from the monastery at the summit afford amazing , if vertiginous views of the Greek mainland and the mountains of Albania. A trip to the top is not to be missed.

Guest comments
"I wanted to express our cordial thanks for a most enjoyable holiday in Villa Thea. The villa was everything we hoped for, and your various recommendations much appreciated. We particularly enjoyed Le Grand Balcon - thank you in particular for this suggestion -and will long remember the welcome afforded us at the local Saint's festival with its abundance of barbecued lamb! In brief, having had little idea about the island, Corfu was a revelation. We loved the scenery, the friendliness of the people and could not have asked for a better base from which to discover its treasures. With very many thanks, David." August 2007.
"The villa is lovely and very well equipped. We had lots of evenings on the terrace admiring the fantastic views.
I think my son's (age 12) comment in your visitors book covers everything. 'Best holiday ever!' Sandra, July 2007.
"We had an excellent holiday in Corfu, and found Villa Thea exactly as you advertised, a superb Villa in a wonderful position." June 2007.
