Villa Apo Petra resides in an enviable position just outside the village of Kokkino Chorio where, back in the 60s, the film Zorba the Greek was filmed with Antony Quinn. Kokkino Chorio really is a traditional village which maintains its farming roots. Its envious location enjoys amazing sea and mountain views from its spectacular elevated position high up on the Drapanokefalas Mountain.

Changeover day
Our preferred changeover day is a Tuesday. Access into the villa is from 4pm on day of arrival. Departure is strictly 10am on your last day.

| Utility Room: | The washing machine is located in the upstairs shower room (which is common for Greece), there is an ironing board, iron, clothes airer with pegs, wash bin and baskets. However for those not wishing to participate in housework there is a local laundrette! |
| Living Rooms: | Beautifully comfortable living room, with cream leather settees, TV, video, DVD, PlayStation 2, portable Ipod unit, soft lighting and tasteful furnishings. Dining room (part of the kitchen diner) seats 8 on an extendable modern glass and wood table. |
| Other: | The 1st floor landing is reached by tiled stairs from the kitchen/diner. It is very spacious upstairs and furnished with a large full length freestanding cast iron mirror with coordinating leather double stool. The walls of the villa are of local stone. |

Towels for the shower and linen are included. Guests need to supply their own beach towels. The property will receive a full clean and inspection prior to guest arrival. A mid stay linen and towel change will be arranged with guests as requested. |

Notes on accommodation
Villa Apo Petra is fully air-conditioned in all the bedrooms and main living area. For the cooler months there is also central heating for comfort. We have everything covered for families with TVs/DVDs in all bedrooms, a small selection of toys, games and pool/beach inflatables as well as a volleyball set. There is also a PlayStation 2 in the lounge with plenty of games and a portable iPod station you can use either in the house or down at the pool (our children never get bored and irritable!). For adults there is a large selection of DVDs to watch should you wish to have a night in. There are reading books and maps on the area and local recommendations for restaurants and places of interest. Apart from all that the many outside seating areas with the stunning views of the sunrise, sunset and in the evening to look up and see the amazing blanket of stars overhead is enough to fill your time over a glass of wine or a local Raki.
Accessibility
Villa Apo Petra is situated on the side of a mountain and the terraces and gardens are on different levels. We have made the grounds secure for young children with gates and railings (we have 3 children ourselves and understand the need for safety around property), however, if you have mobility problems and are not good with steps then you should call us and we can explain fully whether we think the villa will be suitable for you. The villa is not suitable for wheelchair users.
Outside
Villa Apo Petra stands in half an acre of land. We have 3 terraces/balconies attached to the house. One off the master and twin room which is beautifully tiled and perfect for morning coffee watching the sun rise. From the lounge, there is a pergola covered balcony, again, tiled with a lockable gate which leads to the side of the property and out onto the lower gravelled eating area. The 3rd terrace is off of the downstairs bedroom and ideal for meals with a marble table and chairs. Planting is ongoing at the property and includes citrus trees and oleander to add colour and enhance the surroundings of this beautiful setting. The pool is 40sq.m, has its own shower, and is furnished with high quality loungers and umbrellas for shade. The pool commands a fantastic position to lay back and look out to sea, watch the birds of prey soar overhead and listen to the local shepherd herding his sheep. The pool is not shut off, therefore guests with children unable to swim will need to supervise!
Coast/Beach
7 minutes drive away from the villa is the blue flagged beach resort of Almyrida. The gentle sloping sand make it very safe for small children. The more active holidaymakers can make use of the windsurfing school, take out a catamaran or snorkel off the rocks. Kalives is a 15 mins drive and larger than its sister Almyrida with 3 main stretches of beach. If you prefer a quiet cove there is one just 5 mins drive from us, secluded, picturesque and ideal for diving and snorkeling.
Travel
Car hire is essential. The nearest airport is Chania (40 minutes drive). Heraklion airport is approximately 2 hours away. Highly recommend local Car Hire Company 'Kalives Travel' - speak to Jenny and tell her we sent you.

Further details
A 45 minute drive away (towards Chania) is a fabulous Water Park called Limnoupolis close to the community of Varipetro. In Chania you will find many museums. Souda Bay is home to the Greek Navy and Airbase and some wonderful displays of fighter planes including F16's, over the bay is the norm on practice days. The bay is also busy with naval frigates, cruise liners and the Athens ferry. There is never a dull moment. All of this can be seen from the villa. Note to all our potential guests: We would like assure all our guests that if for any reason, unforeseen circumstances were to occur on our part, where we could not honour our side of our agreement in supplying you with the villa, (for the dates booked) we would contact you immediately, discuss alternatives and if you were unhappy for any reason we would give you a FULL REFUND on the villa hire cost. Obviously we could not credit you for your flights or any other personal expenses and we recommend full travel insurance is taken out by all of our guests. Booking notes
To make a booking you can either call or email us via the "contacts" section. A non-refundable 20% deposit will be necessary to secure your requested dates and needs to be paid within 7 days. The total holiday cost is to be paid in full 8 weeks prior to your departure. Cancellation charges are as follows: From date of booking until 8 weeks before departure = 50% (+ deposit) will be required. Less than 8 weeks = 100% (include deposit) will be required. Please take out holiday insurance.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Kokkino Chorio is a typically Cretan village with just a small grocery store and a kafelonian. When we drove through the village in 2005 and ventured on our way up the mountain road we arrived at a plot of land that had the most amazing views of the sea. We never purchase on impulse usually but it felt so right we said yes immediately to reserving the plot and that was how our story began.
On that land now stands our beautiful stone built villa and the views still amaze us and we feel very lucky.
We hope that through care and our attention to detail a holiday at our villa makes you feel as good as we do every time we visit there ourselves.
NW Crete and the Apokoronas, under the cape of the Drapanokefalas mountain is beautiful, but just a small part of this amazing island.

Our villa is just 5 minutes from local restaurants in Plaka, a further 2 minutes and you will be at the small, once fishing village, of Almyrida, the beach, shops and seafront tavernas.
The villa location is perfect for peace and quiet yet it is very convenient to all the local amenities.
For lazy sunny days at the villa the pool is perfect for cooling off and it commands beautiful views of the Agean as well as being a perfect location to watch the sunset over Souda Bay.
