Isna House In The Mountains Above Agios Nikolaos
Stunning Views, Traditional Village
Sleeps 4 (2 Bedrooms)
Isna house is over 100 years old. It was originally the village kafeneion (café) but stood empty for many years until we bought it in 2006 and completed an extensive renovation in 2011. Upstairs is a large veranda where you can watch the sun come up over the mountains in the morning and go down over the sea in the evening. It is perfect for bird-watching during the day and looking at the stars through our telescope at night. Both sun lovers and shade lovers will be happy with the many choices of places to relax in the garden, the courtyard or on the wooden deck. If you love wildlife this is the place for you. There is an abundance of bees, butterflies, birds, tortoises and reptiles. The village is not a tourist spot but an actual working village complete with goats, cows, pigs, chickens and olive groves. The population is small and the village is very quiet with no shops or restaurants but occasional visits from vans selling fresh fish, fruit & veg and bread.
Bedroom 1 with double bed, Bedroom 2 with twin beds. Both bedrooms are downstairs. The house has thick stone walls keeping the bedrooms relatively cool even in the hottest months. All windows have fly-screens.
One bathroom is situated in the house between the two bedrooms and the other bathroom is in the courtyard but easily accessed via an original arched doorway in the double bedroom. Both have hot shower, wash-basin and WC.
There is a modern hand-built kitchen with marble tops and kitchen island. It is equipped with electric kettle, large fridge-freezer, Bosch electric cooker and oven. Plenty of utensils, pots, pans, cutlery, glasses and crockery.
Washing machine. Ironing board and iron.
Upstairs is a very spacious, open-plan living/dining area with a traditional vaulted roof and modern kitchen. iPod dock with speakers, large dining table, sofa, chairs, stools, telescope, wood-burning stove, books, magazines, games.
Towels and bed-linen provided free of charge. Cleaning takes place weekly along with changing beds and towels. If you would like this service more frequently it can be arranged at an extra cost. Beach towels can be hired please speak to us for details.
Fridge/Freezer, Hob/Stove, Iron, Oven, Washing Machine.
Not suitable for anyone with limited mobility or for wheelchairs. There are many steps inside and out and no handrails.
Large garden with many trees. Wooden bench over-looking the Tepeni Gorge and Taygetos Mountains. Sunny courtyard with original Greek oven (non-working), cold shower, access to utility room, bathroom, house and double bedroom. Wooden deck with table and chairs shaded by lemon tree in the mid-afternoon. Many areas to sit in sun or shade. Upstairs there is a large sunny veranda with table and chairs and outside tap with with drinking water from a mountain spring .
Important notes on accommodation
The house is on the side of the Tepeni Gorge. There are no fences or rails around the garden. Also there are no rails on the veranda walls or on any of the stairs. This makes the property potentially quite hazardous for young children. We will therefore be unable to allow children under the age of 12 years to stay at the house. We would love to welcome children but the house is really not suitable for them.
