On Skiathos Island (in hit film "Mamma Mia"), Orchard Villa sits on a low ridge overlooking the stretch of coast considered to have Skiathos' best panoramic sea and hill views. Set in a ½-acre hillside garden and olive grove with a fenced pool, here is everyone's idea of a traditional Greek island villa with blue wooden shutters, red-tiled roofs and porch, Cycladic roof terrace, a large flag-stoned split-level lounge with winter log fireplace, ‘pub’-style bar, and open-plan kitchen. The villa sleeps 6-8 in 4 bedrooms with exposed wood beams, with 3 wet-rooms (1 en-suite). Four French windows from the salon give onto a tastefully furnished vine-covered patio with views, above rose and flower gardens and sunbathing terraces down to the pool. It's 10 mins walk to top taverna "Olive Land" with similar stunning views, and two stylish family hotels with scenic pool bars and restaurants.

Notes on prices
Prices are for up to 6 beds; beds 7-8 ½-price pro-rata. Call us for advice on sensible flight prices. Discounts or premiums may apply to other periods or change-over days, or if a travel agent or similar may be involved in booking the villa itself. The villa has 4 bedrooms/8 beds and is equipped for 8; ideal for 6 adults or 4 adults + 4 kids. Terms: to book, 50% deposit; 50% 10 weeks before start. You must insure against travel risks, cancellation and accidents at the villa.
Changeover day
We can offer any changeover day subject to other bookings, but most charter flights from UK are on Tuesdays or Fridays, with maybe some on Saturdays; so these are the usual days. Travel via Athens is possible 7/7.
Accommodation

Notes on accommodation
High chair and cot must be pre-booked (all free). Note - Internet and telephone: Internet access is by a cheap short-term 3G contract available from Vodaphone office 10 mins away in village. Telephone availability means you are within perfect reception range of several mobile operators (make sure you are subscribed for roaming). TV is by microwave relay, Greek channels only but some English-lang. films - reception quality is not good.
Accessibility
Level car access to front door (3 shallow steps up to villa); level access to the patio and view; 4 steps (2 shallow) down to main top sun terrace; path and shallow steps to pool on next terrace down. So villa and top patio have easy access for wheel-chair with handler (other areas, check with us first). Insider tip: access to many Greek island villas is very difficult even for those without mobility problems (like, long steep flights of narrow garden steps). Check before you book!
Outside
The outside living/dining walled patio adjoins the salon, largely covered by a pergola with vine and wisteria, and with stylish wooden furniture (no plastic!). Four steps lead to a wide sunbathing and partying terrace,above the hillside garden and olive/fig grove with its pool terrace ("the 'ouzo' terrace"!) and an 8x5x1.2m.-deep level-access pool (for child security, built into the hillside with a 1m. high wall, and fenced on the access side). All these enjoy stunning panoramic views of Skiathos bay, beaches, and offshore islands - maybe the best in all the Med., let alone the Greek islands!
Coast/Beach
Skiathos has 60+ beaches and coves, maybe 50 of which are sandy (beaches on many Greek islands are stony!) . The nearest 2 beaches, with tavernas, watersports, etc., are about 5 mins drive or 15 mins. walk down from the villa, but twice that walking back up! So car-hire recommended. It's a maximum of about 25 mins drive to nearly all the other beaches, then for the smaller coves, a 10 mins walk or scramble down a path. A few are only accessible by water-taxi or hired boat.

The larger beaches have water-sports usually including water-skiing, parascending, dinghy sailing, speedboat rides, boat hire, etc. - also, two SCUBA diving clubs, horse-riding, and trail bikes.
Travel
Skiathos airport is a 12 mins drive (no intrusive noise at villa); call us about sensible flight prices. There are charters from many UK and EU airports or scheduled low-cost flights to Athens, then to Skiathos by local flight or taxi/coach and ferry. Car hire strongly recommended; or use the efficient radio taxis, or local buses. Ferries, water taxis and day-trip boats to nearby islands and the mainland. For long-term renters: UK by car, say 3½ days, Europe 2 - 2½; virtually all motorway.
Distances
Picturesque stone-built and pedestrianised Skiathos village and harbour featured in hit film "Mamma Mia". Its shops, harbour, marina, tavernas-bars-clubs, and all services are 10 mins. drive or 50 mins. hill walk (or walk/bus) from the villa. There are scheduled ferry or excursion-boat day trips to other islands and a marine park (dolphins/seals), also day-trips (just about) to classic mainland sites (Athens-Delphi-Meteora).
