The luxury, eco-friendly villa offers not only some of the most spectacular views you will see in all of Greece, but also a uniquely stunning architecture and interior design full of little surprises. The StarGazer was especially designed to harness the power of the sun for heating and makes use of its own rain collecting cistern to preserve water. The sunlit atrium is the heart of the villa. The streaming sunlight from above glints off of the elegant copper sculpture of Pegasus, the symbol of the villa. In every room of the villa, everywhere you turn, you see the astounding view of the Aegean and the mountains as you are surrounded by large windows and welcoming balconies. Elegant terra cotta columns frame the large open spaces and the cool marble floors are soothing to the feet. Step outside and walk amongst the pomegranate and olive trees as you grill at the outdoor BBQ area. Relax in our outdoor hot tub set enjoying the view of the island of Evia (June - September).

Prices reflect up to 6 guests, penthouse, 4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths. 20 Eu per additional guest per night. Inquire about guest house prices. Christmas and Easter holiday prices same as high season.
Changeover day
We are well aware that most of our guests come from afar. To the extend possible we will try to accommodate you. Changeover day open. Earliest arrival time 3:00 pm, unless agreement in advance. Latest departure time, 9:00 am, unless agreement in advance.

Notes on accommodation
All bedrooms are air-conditioned, central heating throughout the whole villa. Several ceiling fans are perfect for folks who would rather not use air-conditioning. There is always a constant breeze. Each penthouse bedroom has its own private veranda overlooking the water and the mountains. Large verandas drape the whole villa, over 800 sq.m.
The master bedroom suite is large with private sitting room and luxury bathroom with jacuzzi. Top quality bedding through out the whole villa and furniture.
The hot tub, perched in the back of the villa overlooking the water accommodates 4 guests. A special request needs to be made to enable it for our guests use.
The villa is large, airy and elegant. Our guests tell us that the pictures do not do it justice. The views are breathtaking! Serenity, beauty and solitude surrounding the villa located just 50 minutes from the heart of Athens.
Accessibility
Our villa is not particularly suited for the physically impared due to the steps. We do have a service elevator for the suitcases.
Outside
Our villa has 8 private verandas and the whole back yard, with the private hot tub and the gas BBQ. The gas BBQ is oversize with a built in oven. It is perfect for large cook outs. All verandas and back yard are furnished with comfortable patio furniture. The living room verandas accommodate 12 guests easily. The back patio furniture accommodates multiple guests also. All private verandas off the bedrooms have their own veranda furniture for two.
Coast/Beach
No matter the language or how you spell it, Schinias is a beautiful area bordering both suburban Athens and the Marathon Plains; Ranked among the top ten tourist attractions by Yahoo! Three aquatic adventures await your pleasure. Only a few minutes down the hill from our villa (5 min), you can enjoy delightful swims, snorkelling, or diving off the rocks. The sandy beach, with its umbrella pine forest, and resorts that offer many water sports, is perfect for children and adults alike.

We can provide a special 6 seater van with highly knowledgeable driver and guide for any daily trip you require. We can make recommendations based on your interests, from trekking, to visiting the antiquities, to wineries, to late night entertainment in down town Athens. Or, we can just provide the driver for your rental car. Please inquire about prices and services.
For the scuba diving enthousiasts, this is the perfect spot!
There are services available for renting of scuba diving gear, day excursions to nearby islands of great interest to scuba divers.
Snorkling is also great. There are several sports clubs (the best is KARAVI) that provide all the comforts for day long swimming, sunbathing, eating, Internet cafes, skiing, parasailing etc. All within a 5 minute drive from the villa.

Travel
Our vacation villa is strategically located within a short driving distance from all major highways leading to Athens and the mainland as well as three ports from where you can take multiple day trips to several islands. Within a 30 minute drive (or bus ride) you access the metro, in 1 ½ hours you can reach Corinth and then Mycenae, Nafplion.. Delphi is 2 ½ hours away. The island of Myconos 1.5 hours by boat. Fantastic Trekking on the island of Evia, cool places to visit in Andros.
Distances
Our community is strategically located within 20 minutes from the town of Marathon where you can find banks, grocery stores, pharmacies etc. You can catch the bus to Athens from Marathon and be there in 60 minutes depending on traffic. Or drive to the metro, just as easy. The twon of Nea makri is another 20 minutes away, with lots of restaurants, shopping. The Marathon museum, the archeaological place of Ramnus, Sounion, the Acropolis, are all within a 15 -60 minute drive.
Further details
Schinias is within the township of Marathon. Marathon is located on the fringe of the Athens urban sprawl but it still retains its rural character. Many of its inhabitants commute daily to their jobs in Athens using either their private automobiles or the local bus service. Day trips into Athens are easily done by private car or by using the local bus. Access to the national highway and day trips to other sites of antiquity are fast and easy.
Our house is located within the planned community of 'Dikastes kai Eisangeleis' on Schinias on the top of the hill by the sea. Most of the land within the Community Dikaston Eisaggeleon Schinias is set aside as 'green' areas with only about 30% used for building lots. The Community Dikaston Eisaggeleon Schinias is gated with a guard and is very secure. The homes in Schinias range from small summer cottages to large villas.
All of the geographic area of Schinias is a National Environmental Park as well as a European Union Environmental Preserve. Only one road enters the park and it has no exit. The only road into our community branches off the park's road and also has no exit. All of this means that we have very little automobile traffic. This makes our community very private, very quite, and very safe. The lack of traffic makes our roads ideal for walking and jogging. We have a road and walking path that parallels the coast line just a few meters above the sea that is great walks in the cool of the afternoon and early evening. (Due to Greece's location relative to time zones, we have daylight almost until 10 pm during the first part of June.) If you are into hiking, one interesting day hike is to walk across country to the ferry port of St. Marina, take the ferry to the island of Evia, hike on the island then return to Sxinias.
There are several small tavernas in the area, with low key charming suroundings and good Greek food. Within a 20 minute drive, you can be on the boardwalk of Nea Makri with many restaurants.

To firmly book our villa:
1) 25% down payment is required.
2) Rest of the payment is due by 45 days before arrival.
3) 400 Euro security deposit due on arrival, is returned on day of departure. Credit card authorization accepted. Please insure you have your travel arrangements made in advance. We will try to accommodate you as much as possible with any changes, unless it impacts other guests. We do recommend travellers insurance. Contract will be available for your review and agreement.

About the owner
Stargazer is our life's dream retirement home. It has been a labor of love building it. We travel extensively and actually live in the USA. We visit Greece at least twice a year in the winter and summer. When we are not visiting our grandchildren in Singapore, we babysit the rest of them in North Carolina.
We love meeting people, good exchange of travel stories and sharing historical information about the area of Marathon and Greece.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We have built on the top of the hill, to take advantage of the great vistas, the solitude and serenity of the place. Our home has all the comfort and amenities one needs for a perfect vacation.
The location is perfect, close to Athens and far away at the same time, within a 30 minute driving distance to towns in the area and the ports. One can take many day trips, enjoy Greek culture and be home at night.
The beach is within a 3 minute drive down the hill. Trekking is great with several interesting paths. Lovely little traditional Greek tavernas in the area can cook to your order if you wish.
Unique benefits of the property
We, of course, love Greece, however we do not love Greek beds or furniture..The beds are small and very hard. We have brought all of our furniture from the US and we are proud especially of the beds which have top quality pillow top mattresses, the large dinning table (up to 12) and the comfortable couches and chairs.
We are also particular about open spaces and our living room is a combination of dinning room, living room and sitting room (TV). It is large with many windows ant two large balconies. Everywhere you turn you will be gazing out to the water and the greater coast line.
We wanted space and light and the eye to be drawn the the outside at all times. All bedrooms have private verandas with great vistas and view of the water and the mountains.
