‘Milos’ consists of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a spacious open plan living room with an open fire, adjoining fully equipped kitchen, and a large west-facing terrace and garden. We have no immediate neighbours, the nearest house is around 150 metres down the hill. In the house, you will find fridge freezer, electric cooker, washing machine, long dining table for six, two sofas, loudspeakers (bring your own iPod, portable CD or computer), outside picnic table and benches, barbecue. Wi-fi internet has recently been added to the property. You will find ample bedding and towels for your stay. Normally, the house is serviced and cleaned weekly but a more frequent service can be requested if required. A housekeeper lives nearby should anything crop up during your stay that needs attending to. Milos has a spacious sun terrace from which to enjoy some spectacular sunsets...and given that Paros has almost uninterrupted sunshine for 7-8 months of the year, that should be most evenings!

Notes on accommodation
As the house is in an elevated position, we elected to have overhead fans in every room rather than air-conditioning which is not really required even in high summer. The house is generally safe for toddlers, although supervision would be needed on the terrace as there is a potential drop on one side.

Accessibility
Not ideally suited to wheelchair users as steps into house.

Outside
Extensive gardens surrounding property, ideal for BBQ space. Sunbeds also included, and ideal on terrace which is the perfect suntrap.

Coast/Beach
Paros is blessed with some of the finest sandy beaches in Greece, and amongst the best in the Cyclades. Temperature around 30 celsius in summertime and a pleasant 14-22 celsius in the autumn with water temperatures 20-25 celsius over this period. Favourite months are May, June, early July, September and October.
Many great beaches on the island - Alyki (5 mins away) also has good family beaches, but you're spoilt for choice! Voutakos is a gem and hardly features on any maps or tourist guides.

Travel
Fly to Athens via Easyjet, Olympic or Aegean. You can get to Paros from Athens in under 30 minutes by Dash 8 plane shuttle or in 3 hours by hi-speed ferry from Piraeus or Rafina.

Paros lies roughly at the centre of the Cyclades, between Naxos and Sifnos islands, 90 nautical miles south east of Athens’ Piraeus ferry port. There are frequent ferry connections from Piraeus (3 - 4.5 hours),

There is also an Easyjet service from Gatwick to Mykonos and Santorini with good connections to Paros.

Distances
Bakery / supermarket 0.8km.
Nearest town Alyki 1.2km.
Nearest Beaches 1.2km.
Airport 1km (don't be alarmed - there are only three light aircraft a day).
Port 6km.
Naoussa (popular tourist fishing port) 10km.

Further details
Paros is an outdoor haven. The ‘meltemi’ winds and crystal clear water make the Aegean ideal for maritime adventure. 2 locations in Paros Island boast ideal conditions for water sports, including wind surf, sea kayak kite surfing, water ski and donut riding - the Golden Beach on the east coast, and Pounda, in the channel between Paros and Antiparos. Also many boat excursions, horse riding, plentiful car and scooter hire, yoga, tai chi etc etc...

Eating out - Alyki has some great traditional Greek tavernas. Most choice is in Paroikia or Naoussa or Antiparos with a wide range of international cuisines. The Thea restaurant by the Antiparos ferry is my choice for eating out with the best wine selection on the island.

Booking notes
Contract will be issued with 25% deposit required to secure the booking. The balance will be due 14 days before arrival date.

Owner profile

About the owner
I would describe myself as a conceptualist, recording artist, DJ, music programmer, writer, photographer, broadcaster and global traveler. Out of all those things, it's probably the conceptualising that I enjoy the most...the last concept was a festival called The Big Chill, which started in London in the mid 90s and involved me very much for the next 14 years. I'm currently working on a new internet community project...

Year purchased: 2005

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Paros was a natural choice. I'd fallen in love with the Cyclades on my very first visit back in 1981 and many years later, got to spend a few days on the island in 2004. It actually had everything I was looking for, in particular a great balance between solitude and entertainment. Plenty of great beaches to lie on with scarcely anyone else around in early summer or autumn ...or alternatively plenty going on in the summer holidays when I wanted to spend two action packed weeks with my children. Paros also has the cleanest water I've seen anywhere. So when I was shown Milos house it was the location and the awesome view looking west that sealed it. I was only here for a holiday but on a whim looked at a couple of new houses and promptly went home and put in an offer...the rest is history.

Unique benefits of the property
It's secluded with no immediate neighbours so the first thing I get when I arrive is absolute privacy. After the ferry journey gradually leaving the noisy, grimy city behind, knowing that I'm about to chill with a glass of local wine and some good music on the terrace with my favourite view in the world. I've always wanted somewhere with a westerly view and Milos house fulfills this and more. Watching the water between Paros and Antiparos could keep anyone entertained for hours, observing the sun's movement and shadows against the contours of the hills, getting out the binoculars to observe raptors circling in the valley below, or paragliders around Pounta. this is a very special spot - Tom Hanks knew that too (his house is exactly opposite on Antiparos). It's a great escape and I love it!
