Secluded Villa with Infinity Pool
On Edge of Hillside Village, with Unbroken Sea Views
Sleeps 7 (3 Bedrooms)

Iremia (the Greek word for tranquillity, peacefulness) is an old stone village house at the outer edge of the village with uninterrupted views down to the sea about 200 m. below, and across the Saronic Gulf to the Peloponnese, Corinth, and the islands of Angistri, Salamina, and Aegina. The house which is very private was completely rebuilt to a very high standard four years ago. There is a 300 metre walk through the village to the house from the village square where you park your car. With no roads or traffic nearby Iremia lives up to its name – the only sounds are those of nature, and the occasional sound of a passing fishing boat. The perfect setting for a quiet, secluded holiday.

Accessibility
Parking is in the village square with a 300 metre walk through the village to the house on a gently sloping, surfaced path. Luggage with wheels is recommended.
Outside
One side of the house is a private, walled courtyard, with shaded seating under an almond tree, a dining table and chairs. Doors from the kitchen, garden room, upper hall and bedroom 1 open onto this courtyard which has pots of geraniums and climbing bourganvillea.
The other side paved terraces, with pots of geraniums, roses, jasmine, honeysuckle hibiscus, maintained by automatic watering, and shaded by a pergola, lead down to the Infinity Pool. 6.5m X 6.5m, with the overflow end providing stunning views across the gulf. The overflow pool can be used for little children and there is also a pool child-safety system with bracelet activated alarm available for a small deposit. The automatic filtration system means there is no taste of chlorine and maintains water quality. There is a freshwater shower.
A 5-metre Loggia with luxurious seating facing across the pool to the sea and island views.
BBQ area with stone charcoal BBQ, table for food preparation and outside fridge.
Coast/Beach
The house is about 200 m. up the hillside. Nearest beach is 2km. with excellent gently shelving sand within a safe harbour. There is also good swimming off the rocks, in deep water.
Travel
The nearest airport is Athens, 3 hours drive to the house. Alternative transport is by bus to the port of Piraeus - 1 hour busride with buses every 20 mins - and 2 hours by ferry to Methana. There are three ferries a day. A car is essential due to the remote location of the house.
Distances
The village of Kounoupitsa, on the north side of the Methana peninsular, is 12km. from Methana town, on the eastern side. The nearest Taverna is about 2km.
It is about 22 km. across the isthmus to the main road on the mainland, thence 10 km. south to the next town, Galatas and Poros island by local ferry, or north to Epidavros.
Further details
It is 12km to Methana town on the eastern side of the beautiful, unspoilt peninsula, where are the nearest shops. It is substantial with a long waterfront and main quay where ferries and visiting yachts berth. There is also a sheltered harbour for local fishing boats and resident pleasure craft which is the safest of all harbours in the area. In the summer the waterfront is closed to traffic after 7.00 in the evening to provide a promenade area for the mainly Greek visitors with many of the tavernas and bars having tables right on the waterfront. There are many tavernas, cafes and bars throughout the town, and local shops of all descriptions. One of the principal attractions are the two Methana Volcanic Spa’s.
Methana is the product of some 13 volcanoes, the last erupting some 2,500 years ago, and the mountainous interior provides superb walking with magnificent views.
There is an abundance of significant archeological sites in the area, particularly EPIDAVROS with its magnificent ancient amphitheatre and archeological site, which is about a one hour drive.

Owner profile
About the owner
We are a retired professional couple and have owned property in Greece for many years. We love the country and the people and spend six months a year there travelling across Europe by road, with out two labradors.
We make our guest house available in the summer months when we are away from Greece.
Year purchased: 1994
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We wanted to be in reach of Piraeus/Athens but in an unspoilt, non-tourist area and the Methana peninsular was perfect - undeveloped, mountainous and beautiful with stunning sea views - yet accessible by road and by ferry. The few small villages have somewhat depopulated over recent years, and we bought two old stone village houses on the edge of a hillside village, and restored them keeping traditional style, but modern facilities, and equipped to a very high standard.
Unique benefits of the property
With a 300 metre walk to the house through the old village, and no roads adjacent to the property, with uninterrupted views straight down to the sea, the house is secluded, private and enjoys absolute quiet.
