Perfectly situated on the hillside in a beautiful area above the village of Plaka, considered to be one of the most desirable locations in Crete. Set in its own grounds of approx half an acre this large 125m sq 3 bedroom villa is extremely spacious with breathtaking views of the Aegean sea and the snow capped white mountains. To maximise the views the open plan living accommodation is upstairs with large balconies, and the 3 double bedrooms are downstairs all with patio doors leading directly to the pool terrace. Fully equipped for an idyllic holiday with air conditioning, outside stone BBQ and dining table, TV and DVD Player. The historical ancient Venetian town of Chania is a 25 minute drive and for the ultimate in convenience Chania's International airport is only a 40 min drive.

Changeover day
Changeover day is usually Tuesday but can be flexible on dates. Arrival is after 3.30pm where you will be met at the villa with the keys. On Departure days we ask that you vacate by 11.30am

Bedrooms: Bedroom 1 with double bed, fitted with wardrobes and patio doors leading out to the pool terrace.
Bedroom 2 with double bed, fitted with wardrobes and patio doors leading out to the pool terrace.
Bedroom 3 with twin beds, and patio doors to garden.
Bathrooms: En-suite bathroom to bedroom 1 with shower, WC and wash basin. Bathroom 2 with bath, shower, WC & Basin, Washing machine.
Bathroom 3 is upstairs in the open plan living area, WC & Wash Basin.
Kitchen: Open plan Kitchen includes a sink, cooker, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle along with all the usual kitchen equipment/utensils. There is also a balcony off the kitchen with magnificent views out to the sea and the surrounding hills.
Utility Room: Washing machine is located in the ground floor bathroom, with a room under the stairs for ironing board and general cleaning equipment, snorkels, storage for suitcases etc.
Living Rooms: The lounge/kitchen is open plan. There is a large living room/dining area with a dining table for 6 people. 3 seater sofa, 2 seater sofa bed, coffee table, sideboard, 2 sets of double patio doors leading out to a large balcony with dining table/chairs.
Other: There are dining tables on both upstairs balcony and downstairs by the pool.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
The villa is fully managed and maintained. The villa will be cleaned prior to your arrival with clean towels and linen. These will be replaced on a weekly basis. Additional maid service available on request.

 

Notes on accommodation
The villa is fully air conditioned, however for the cooler months there is an open stone fire in the living room. There are also lots of DVD`s, games, books and magazines to read. A cot and high chair are available on request.

Accessibility
No adaptions for wheelchairs users, however the bedrooms are situated on the ground floor with 1 en-suite bedroom and a house bathroom.

Outside
The villa is accessed by a private drive that is shared with one other detached villa who also own half an acre of land so there is plenty of space between us and our only neighbour. There is private car parking space at the rear of the property for 2 cars. There are patios around the house with a large pool terrace, a private 40m sq pool, outside shower, a stone BBQ, 6 sun loungers, parasol, table and chairs for outside dining. The pool is cleaned twice per week. The sun sets in a spectacular display to the front of the villa as it disappears behind the distant hills. A fantastic place to relax and chill!

Coast/Beach
There is a secluded `secret beach` with caves about 5 min drive away. The main resort of Almerida with its blue flag beach is only 2.5km and has a water sports centre. There are many coves and beaches throughout this part of western Crete.

Travel
The nearest airport is Chania which is about a 40 minute drive. Heraklion airport is an 1 hour 45 mins along the coastal road. Car hire is recommended and available at both airports. Easyjet and jet2 fly to Heraklion from the UK, Charter flights mainly to Chania on Tuesdays, however easyjet have now started flying to Chania from Gatwick.

Distances
The village of Plaka is a 5-10 minute walk down the hill with 3 tavernas, one of which is the best in the area. There are a couple of bars and a mini market. Almerida is 5 minutes in a car, here you will find bars, restaurants, mini markets, shops and local tavernas. Vamos and Kalyves and other small villages are all located within a short drive. Roman ruins at the ancient city of Aptera - 15 mins drive.

Further details
Petrol station 2 mins, bakery/butchers in the next village. ATM machines/supermarkets 10 min drive. Monastries, museums and other historical/archaeological sites close by. Water park 25 mins drive, Rethyminon 45 mins, Lake Kournas 25 mins. The south coast is 1 hour by car across the mountain ranges. Spectacular drive and scenery - not for the faint hearted! Athens 40 minutes by plane.

Booking notes
Prices are quoted in UK Pounds. A non refundable deposit of 20% is required with the remaining balance to be paid in full 6 weeks prior to your departure. A £100 refundable breakage deposit is required at time of booking. The booking dates will be held for 7 days and confirmed once your deposit payment has cleared.

About the owner
I live In Halifax, England with my fiance Sarah. I bought a plot of land with my brother, Lee and his wife Helen in 2005 and we built the villa using local builders. We have enjoyed some fantastic times, the children love coming out to Crete and have spent large parts of their school holidays here.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Friends of ours already had a place in Almerida, they Invited us out for a holiday, we loved the area and decided to buy a fantastic elevated plot with spectacular sea & mountain views. It is a great place to relax, the weather is consistent and the cretan diet is one of the healthiest in the world! Aside from the wonderful beaches and stunning countryside, Crete is steeped in History. The Turks and the Venetians have at one time ruled the Island and left their historical mark here. It is a fascinating place to visit with over 320 days of sunshine each year.
