Villa Viran is in a small estate of similar homes, many of which are all year round homes. The private pool at the front of the villa is surrounded by a well kept garden. At the back of the house is a private shady area. The nearest tavernas and mini markets are in the village. Near to the coast are many more taverna, restaurants, bars and supermarkets. In Perama, the nearest large town there is a choice of supermarkets, butchers, bakeries and fishmongers - or travel 30 mins to the City of Rethymno where the choice is larger plus tourist shops and places of historical interest. All along the north coast there are large bays and small coves. The nearest beach is the east of Rethymno Bay and a 10 minutes drive from the Villa. Some of the beaches in Crete are amongst the best in the world. Less than 1 hour to the east is Heraklion with antiquary’s sites like Knossos – 70 minutes to the west is Chania with its Venetian harbour and just over an hour are the beaches of the south coast.

| Bedrooms: | Bedroom 1 has a queen size double bed, ample wardrobe space and French windows opening onto a patio. Bedroom 2 has two single bed, ample wardrobe space and french windows opening onto a patio. |

| Kitchen: | The kitchen, separated from the living room by a breakfast bar, has: an oven, ceramic hob, extractor fan, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffeemaker, kettle and toaster. |
| Utility Room: | A small room off the kitchen houses the washing machine, iron and ironing board. |
| Living Rooms: | There is a comfy couch, and armchair positioned around the fireplace and LCD TV, DVD player and satellite TV decoder plus the indoor dining area seat 6. |

Notes on accommodation
The bungalow is suitable for children but parents must be aware the pool os more than 1.5 meters deep and children should be watched by an adult.
The air-con units will cool all bedrooms.
Outside
Outside there is a well cared for garden surround the private pool (6 m by 3m), which is not heated but from May to September is normally 18C to 22C.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach, 10 minutes is at the east end of Rethymno Bay. 15 minutes takes you to the village Panormo where three sheltered shallow bays are very children friendly, plus a great choices of tavernas. All along the north coast there are long bays and small cover. It is an hours drive to the south of the island where there is are many beaches.
Travel
Heraklion airport is an hour drive away - Chania 75 minutes drive.

Viran Episkopi is a tiny village above the bay of Rethymno, near to Rethymnon with its beautiful old town, modern shops and great sandy beach.
The surroundings of the villa are most peaceful and are perfectfor extended strolls through olive and orange tree groves to the neighbouring villages.
The coast and the village of Stavromenos, Rethymnon, Crete Stavromenos with it's hotels, shops, bakery, bars, discotheques and watersport facilities are just 3 kms north-west of Viran Episkopi. 20 minutes drive along the coast is the regional capital of Rethymno, and the governmental district of the same name. It ranks as the island's cultural center and is home to several museums, to the philosophical branch of the University of Crete.The town's landmark is the Fortezza, a fortress from the Venetian period (1211 - 1646), standing on an exposed rock that reaches into the bay. Next to the Fortezza is the Venetian Old Town. In it's narrow lanes there are numerous small shops, arts and crafts workshops, restful bars, and restaurants of varied cuisine.
The Turkish occupation (1646 - 1898) affected the townscape as well. The typically Turkish bay-windows were mounted to many houses in the old town, and up to the present day several minarets show the mosques' locations.
One hours drive east is Heraklion, where you can visit Knossos, the museum, a water park and many other places of interest. Another hour further to the east is Spinalonga, the island made famous by the book "The Island".
One hour to the west is Chania, and less than an hour drive south takes you to the beautiful beaches on the of the island. A holiday based near Rethymno gives good access to a large section of the island of Crete.

About the owner
We live in the USA but fell in love with Crete many, many years ago. When a chance to buy a small part of the island came up we jumped at it. From our house you can see the mountains, that are normally covered in snow until late May. You can walk into the village or a few minutes drive take you to the sea. For us ts a perfect retreat from the madness of our hectic lives. I do hope you have a great vacation in our home.
