Secluded villa divided into 3 apartments – ideal for family holidays. Each 42m2 apartment sleeps up to 4 people. The villa stands on its own on the edge of the village of Amaliapolis which is popular with holidaying Greeks but largely undiscovered by foreign tourism. As well as the village beach which you can walk to, there are several other nice sandy beaches within easy driving distance and many archaeological sites. The whole area is very untouristy and has many delightful mountain settlements and seaside villages all waiting to be explored. Amaliapolis itself is very picturesque and sits on a large bay in the Pagasitic Gulf, 50km south of the lively university city of Volos from where Jason and the Argonauts set sail and just 20km from Volos airport. The village is surrounded by olive groves and framed by hills - great for a wonderfully relaxing Greek seaside holiday. Further inland lie the cotton growing plains of Thessaly and across the Gulf is the Pelion Peninsula.

The Pelion Peninsula is also within driving distance with beautiful scenery, both seaside and mountains - a good day trip. In winter there is even a ski resort on the peninsula! If you want to venture further afield both classical Delphi (120km), and the Byzantine monasteries of Meteora (180km) make memorable excursions also Dion (170km).
Further details
In the village centre you will find a choice of cafes/bars and tavernas, with excellent fish, several of which stay open all year, all within walking distance of the villa. The village also has two bakeries and two general stores. In summer Amaliapolis is popular with holidaying Greek families. You can experience the 'real' Greece here largely untouched by mass market tourism. Sit in the village square looking out over the sea and watch the world go by or relax at the villa enjoying the lovely views whilst your children play in the garden.
Archaeology: the area of Magnesia is rich in archaeological sites including Nea Anchialos, Prehistoric Dimini, Sesklo and Dimitras. There are archaeological museums both in nearby Almyros and a larger regional museum in Volos. As well as Meteora, Delphi and Dion it is also possible to visit Pella and Vergina if you are keen on archaeology.
Visit Amaliapolis in Spring and see the hillsides covered in beautiful wildflowers. Birdspotters also will see a variety of birdlife. Take advantage of the lower temperatures in May or June if you want to sight see as well as swim. The sea is still wonderfully warm in September and October and the day time temperatures not quite so hot as July and August. Even in the winter months the weather is often bright and sunny.

Eva Nilsson wrote: We really want to congratulate you for having this fantastic house in a wonderful little village - beautiful, peaceful and convenient. The house is very well equipped. I don’t think we missed anything. Bathing and snorkling have been favourites activities, finding calamares, fish and various seashells. The beaches are all really good, the waves in the afternoon at Lefki were great fun. We now leave with a lot of good memories (and a suitcase full of olive-oil, olives, ouzo, dolmades, beautiful stones and seashells) and hopefully one day we will be back.

Very few flies! An easy walk to a superb beach-we are keen swimmers and this was by far the safest and cleanest water we have ever been in. We found everyone so friendly.
Owner profile
About the owner
We have owned this holiday villa on the Greek mainland in the delightful village of Amaliapolis, near Volos since 2002. It was initially intended only as a holiday home but it is in such a special place and we feel so privileged to own it that we wanted to share it with others so that more people could experience the wonderful welcome (in Greek Filoxenia) which we found in the village and in the region of Thessaly. It is available all year round basis for rental to holidaymakers or other visitors for short or long let. It sleeps a total of 16 and is subdivided into 4 apartments. We can also offer general advice about the local area, visits to other attractions further away such as Delphi and Meteora and also travel to/from airports and seaports.
We speak English, Greek, French, Spanish
Year purchased: 2002
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
This part of Magnesia is really not on the tourist trail. There are Greek holidaymakers in August but for the rest of the year there are very few tourists so the local people are always pleased to see visitors from other countries and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. This friendliness is what really convinced us to buy here.
This area is extremely beautiful with both mountains (including Mt. Pelion and Mt. Othrys) to explore and pretty seaside villages to visit. Even on summer weekends (the busiest time on the village beach) you can drive to one of the other beaches described in our welcome file at the house and find a beach with very few people, if that is what you prefer.
Unique benefits of the property
It really is only a 7 minute walk to the sandy beach or to the village centre and that is for a middle aged person who doesn't walk particularly quickly!
We still view this very much as a holiday home rather than a 'business' so everything is designed for the maximum convenience and comfort - hence you will find CDs to listen to, books to read and so on. We are also used to UK standard central heating so the house has proper oil-fired central heating - not just air-conditioning units which you can turn to the 'hot' setting which some holiday rental owners in Greece think constitutes heating for the cooler months.
