Notes on accommodation
Skiathos Old Town is virtually traffic free. Villa Panos at the top of the old town occupies a prime position with unspoiled views over the old theatre of Bourtzi and across the picturesque port of Skiathos to the lush forested headland of the Pounta. Owing to its location however, it might be unsuitable for people with walking difficulties since the local taxi will drop you off at the square of Panaghia I Limnia church which is a few minutes walk down cobbled streets to the Villa.
Coast/Beach
The island of Skiathos enjoys a succession of beaches with soft sand shelving gently into the sea making it safe but adventurous for adults and children alike. A bus service runs every 20 minutes during the season from Skiathos Town along the South coast of the island. The nearest bus stop situated above the local beach is a 10 minute walk away from the Villa. There are also water taxis to various beaches from the old harbour which is a one minute walk down from the property.
Travel
Skiathos airport is 5 minutes away by taxis which are readily available outside the airport terminal building. Direct charter flights from many UK airports from May through to October. Average flight time three and a half hours.
Distances
Two minute walk down through traffic free area to the main hub of Skiathos Town and the old and new harbours and the numerous bars and waterfront tavernas and restaurants.
Further details
The island of Skiathos is considered one of the best holiday locations in Greece. It allows you to discover fantastic beaches on an evergreen unspoiled island that retains much of its wild beauty and bird-life. Pine-scented hills vie with magnificent beaches and the cosmopolitan town of Skiathos for attention. There are many wonderful walks on Skiathos ranging from gentle strolls through leafy green valleys to the quiet beaches on the north side of the island and more strenuous hikes in the hills affording wonderful views and a great insight into the indigenous wild-life and flora and fauna of the island. In recent years, the routes for walking have been well sign-posted and there are a number of guide-books available. I think the best of these are those written by Vasilis Koralli, a Greek-American who lives permanently in Skiathos. Copies of Vasilis' books are available in each apartment for guests and form part of the extensive information folder which I have compiled which covers the cultural aspects of living in Greece together with the history and geography of Skiathos and the neighbouring islands and the mainland. Skiathos Town itself (where Villa Panos is situated) is a sophisticated town with a fine selection of chic boutiques and tempting jewellery and antique shops, yet it has lost none of its traditional charm. From the waterfront, the narrow cobbled streets lead up to areas devoted to tavernas and restaurants. The choice and standard of dining are excellent.

"Just returned from Skiathos and wanted to tell you that we really enjoyed staying at Villa Panos. We all had a fabulous holiday. The house was lovely-cool when we needed to be with refreshing breezes on the balcony. We had everything that we needed & it was cleaned with great thoroughness. All in all everything was perfect. Don't be surprised to hear from us again" and I have! -Wass family (Apts 1,2 & 3)
"Our family holiday in Skiathos was excellent. Both apartments were lovely, well-equipped with very good cleaning service & in an excellent position. The views overlooking the harbour were beautiful. We will definitely be coming back to Skiathos & hopefully to Villa Panos - Foulkes family (Apts1 & 2)
"We thought Villa Panos was lovely, and in probably the best position in town with lovely spacious accommodation and comfy beds - Wyn Hurst
"We absolutely loved the apartment which catered for all our needs and was spotless comfortable and cool". Moira & Denis Deeney (Apt 1).
Owner profile
About the owner
Being a Property lawyer for many years practising in the UK in Norwich, one might have thought that I would be wary of navigating the Greek legal system. It turned out however to be an interesting and educational experience and one well worth embarking upon - as I muse each time I sit on my balcony enjoying the fabulous views. The adventure started in May 2004 when we arrived on the island and our first port of call (as always) was Syraino Taverna - affectionately known as the "orange comfy chairs" - for the first Amstel of the holiday! There, we met a friend who was working for the Real Estate Office of Wibis (now Skiathos Estates). John was that afternoon viewing a house in the Plakes. Suffice to say, the property never made the open market and the rest, as they say, is history.
Year purchased: 2004
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Many years ago on my first visit to Skiathos, I fell in love with the island. I had holidayed on many other Greek islands but none had the all-round appeal afforded by Skiathos. Skiathos Town, with its white-washed property and charm and glamour, is to me the St Tropez of the Greek islands. Over the years, I settled on staying in Skiathos Town itself which has the attraction of all the night-life on the doorstep but the beaches are easily accessible during the day. Then, one particular holiday, I discovered the tranquil old town area known as the Plakes and decided that if ever I were able to acquire a property on the island, this would be the perfect location. Unfortunately, properties in the Plakes very rarely come onto the market since it is where the local Greeks like to live and stay.
Unique benefits of the property
Villa Panos enjoys a prime position in the heart of the Plakes area of Skiathos Old Town amongst the locals and away from the maddening crowds - yet it is only a minutes walk down-hill to the old harbour with its traditional Greek fish tavernas, restaurants and bars. Nestled in the cobbled streets, the area is virtually traffic-free and ideal for a relaxing holiday. Since there are no buildings in front of the property (and never will be), Villa Panos benefits from one of the best views in Skiathos Town - looking out over the Aegean Sea and to the neighbouring islands one way and across Skiathos Town and down into the old harbour the other way. We particularly enjoy the fact that from the old harbour we can take a water-taxi to the beach - a fun and relaxing way to start the day.
