Notes on accommodation
Fully air-conditioned. Very generous storage facilities in the two double-width floor-to-ceiling fitted wardrobe units. Generous car parking provided.
Internet access is available in the apartment and Wireless internet in the pool area.
Accessibility
The studios are 30-40m from the car park and the pool. They are accessed via a short flight of steps and so may not be suitable for those with mobility problems.
Outside
a Rattan patio table and 4 chairs are provided. Shared swimming pool with sunbeds. Beautifully landscaped gardens and seating areas for the use of quests. Herb garden for the use of guests. Views from the terrace to the bay and the mountains.
Coast/Beach
Makrigialos, meaning 'Long Beach' has some of the finest beaches in Crete, and there is a lovely quiet one just 250m from the studios. There are numerous other small unspoilt secluded beaches and coves along the coast. The main beach in the village of Makrigialos itself is well worth a visit. The waters are amazingly warm in July and August.
Travel
The nearest international airport is at Heraklion, 120km/75miles away which has regular flights from most major European cities. Monarch, Thomson, Thomas Cook and Olympic Airlines all serve the airport. There is a small domestic airport at Sitia, 35km/22 miles away offering flights to and from Athens and other Greek destinations. Heraklion is also served by regular ferries from Athens and the other Greek islands. We recommend hiring a car in order to get the most from exploring the region.
Distances
Ierapetra is the nearest large town, 30km away. Sitia is 35km away. Both towns merit a visit.
Further details
Makrigialos has at least 3 ATM machines. The nearest to Bay View is at the Sun Wing complex. There is a pharmacy on the way into the village, and a medical centre at the other end of the village. Makrigialos also has a large selection of restaurants and bars, serving excellent food, very reasonably priced. Scuba diving, fishing and sailing are available nearby.
A visit to the gorges of Pefki, Dasaki or Pevrolakia make a good day out for those who enjoy hiking. Other options are the boat trip from the harbour in Makrigialos to Lefki island, wine-tasting at the Kaspa monastery, the palm-forest beach at Vai or traditional Cretan evenings in Pefki.
Booking notes
25% deposit is required with booking and balance to be paid at least 8 weeks before travel. If the date you make the booking is less than 8 weeks before travel, then full payment is required at the time of booking. Payment by Paypal or via electronic bank transfer is preferred.

Ricardo, Birmingham, August 2009: I've had a very nice holiday, very quiet as I wanted. The apartment is very nice and well furnished and everything was working properly. The development is easy to find and the people who received me were very nice. The pool is very nice though the water was a bit cold, but who cares as the average temp was 36Celsius. The location is the peaceful and quiet during night time. The trip from Heraklion was a pleasant one with a very nice scenery.

You are very fortunate to have such a beautiful place. The gardens are spectacular and well kept. The pool area was always clean. Beds were comfortable and bedding was clean. Cleaning staff did an impressive job. There was lots of cabinet space to put our things.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Crete is one of the most beautiful of the Greek islands, and the scenery of the south eastern region is probably the most spectacular on the island. The people of Makri Gialos are delightfully friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and inexpensive, the beaches are many and exceptional, the climate may well be the best on the island.
