Quiet Historic Location, 5 Minutes Walk to Waterfront Activity
Sleeps 5 (2 Bedrooms)

This superb house benefits by offering accommodation on two levels. The main house, and the apartment below. The main house offers outstanding accommodation for two persons and as such the apartment is not brought into use. Consequently this is reflected in the lower rental charge. The fully equipped apartment sleeps up to a further three persons making it ideal for a family with teenage children or a group of friends. The apartment has its own entrance, a blessing for anyone wishing to have a late night out. The house is located on a very quiet stepped street, in the oldest section of town, where one feels part of the local, extremely hospitable Greek community. Nearby historical interest includes the Venetian Fortress with parts dating back as far as 4th century B.C. In complete contrast in a slightly different direction the bustle of all the waterfront amenities are only a 5 minute walk away.

Coast/Beach
Skopelos boasts many wonderful beaches with a choice of either sand or pebbles. The closest beach is Staphylos which is a 15 minute bus ride. Further along the coastline Panormos is a 30 minute bus ride. Both beaches have full facilities. If you like walking then the beach at Glyfoneri will take about 25 minutes.
Travel
The nearest airport is Skiathos. A 5 min taxi ride to the port where you take a ferry or hydrofoil to Skopelos taking around 50 minutes. Alternatively you can fly to Thessaloniki, then a bus to Volos, and pick up a ferry or hydrofoil to Skopelos. This however a much longer route.
Distances
Upon arriving in Skopelos the house is either a few minutes taxi ride or a 10 minute walk. The hire of a car is not essential as there is a good bus service. However if you wish to hire there are numerous companies for either a car or motor scooter.
Further details
With 5 million Pines, thousands of Olive Trees, and a mixture of broad leaf trees, Skopelos has deservedly earned the reputation of being the greenest of all the Greek islands. Add to this the sheer beauty of the rugged coastline sweeping down to pristine beaches and azure blue seas then it's easy to see why this is a place to fall in love with. The interior of the island has a myriad of tracks and trails which pass by peaceful hamlets. You are sure to come across one of the 360 churches, chapels, and monasteries which the island is famous for. A sheer delight if you are a keen walker. Skopelos town itself offers a maze of narrow cobbled streets just crying out to be explored. Around nearly every bend you will come upon something of interest. Venetian architecture, enchanting little chapels, charming and beautifully kept houses, nearly all with wonderful displays of flowers. Further into the town there is every type of shop you can imagine, chemists, supermarkets, cafes, bars, banks, ATM machines, and a post office.Wireless internet at bars and cafes. In the evenings the shops stay open late, and there is plenty of choice for eating out. Charming Tavernas for delicious local dishes, or if you prefer try one or the preety walled garden restaurants; a candlelit table under the stars with a choice of international dishes. What could be more inviting. No wonder it's easy to see why so many people come back to Skopelos time after time.

Owner profile
About the owner
Our names are Anne and Frank, and we live in Surrey U.K. We are now both retired after having spent our working lives in the fashion industry, myself as a photographer, and Anne as a stylist. We first visited Skopelos in 1993, and with our children, who were young at that time, enjoyed a most memorable holiday. The following year we went back, and have been back every year since! Over these many visits we have discovered the exceptional beauty of the island. The breathtaking countryside, the sheer drama of the rugged coastline, the pristine beaches and crystal clear water. It's no wonder people fall in love with the place.
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Each year we were making new friends. Both Greek and many from the different nationalities that have settled there. We were beginning to feel part of the local community ourselves. To our delight in 2003 we found a property in our favourite part of the Old Town. At long last our search for our very own holiday home was over, and this is when we really stated to live our dream.
Unique benefits of the property
Surrounded by friends and having a preference for town life meant we had found the perfect location. Our house benefits from large airy rooms, and something quite rare for a townhouse- a walled garden! We have enjoyed creating the best of traditional Greek features combined with the comforts of a modern home. All this in a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood yet only a short distance to where it's all happening! No need for a car, we can walk into town, and don't have to worry about parking. Needless to say many of our friends have become envious, and enjoy staying at our house as much as ourselves.
