About the Owner
My husband and I both love the sea. My husband is a round the world sailor and our lovely beach house on this totally unspoiled island, so close to the mainland and yet utterly tranquil and untouched by time, is the closest you can get to being on a boat and yet be on land!
Year property purchased: 2005
Why this location?
Wonderful wild & virtually undiscovered island with amazing seascapes & clifftop walks, making this one of the last unspoiled & little visited places off the coast of France. The house has direct access to beautiful sandy swimming beaches and to the harbour. There are very few cars & access to the island is by regular foot ferry (20 minutes) during daylight hours only from the old port of Roscoff (easy access from the Plymouth/Roscoff Brittany Ferries Terminal). A local taxi is available. The island is about 2 miles long and 1 mile wide with sheltered beaches, bicycles can easily be hired. There are 2 shops and small cafés/restaurants. Good walking, a wonderful friendly ambiance & endless supply of freshly caught fish and seafood and locally grown produce.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
This property offers amazing ease of access from the UK Brittany Ferries service from Plymouth to Roscoff & yet offers a complete escape from the outside world! This wild and unspoiled island, washed by the Gulf Stream, is a haven of peace benefiting from a wonderful micro climate as its world famous tropical gardens testify. Thalassotherapy with its spa treatments was discovered in Roscoff where an excellent spa centre remains open year round.
