Set in 3.5 acres, there is a large garden with terrace, patio furniture and barbecue for you to enjoy. It is located midway between Bagnoles de l'Orne and Lassay-les-Chateaux, both about 8 miles away. Bagnoles is a well known French spa town famous for its waters and healing properties and there is an excellent selection of restaurants in the town. Lassay is known for its chateaux and also has a delightful rose garden. The picturesque medieval town of Domfront with its chateau and church of St. Julien is 17 miles away. Though all amenities are nearby, our location is very tranquil and you can feel the peace and quiet envelop you. About the area
Accessibility
There are steps into each of the gites and stairs to the bedrooms so the gites may not be suitable for those of limited mobility.
Outside
The garden outside the gites is just under an acre so there is plenty of room to spread yourselves out. Garden and patio furniture along with barbecues are available.
There are a further 2.5 acres beyond the garden which is given over to a playing field - ideal for energetic youngsters - and a newly planted orchard which we are developing. You are more than welcome to sample the apples, pears and plums when in season.
The swimming pool is around 1 metre deep and close to the terraces so you can keep an eye on your children while enjoying a glass of wine, cooking the barbecue or just relaxing.
Coast/Beach
There is a lakeside beach at La Ferté-Macé which is just under 12 miles away and takes around 25 minutes to get there.
Further afield to the north there are the Normandy landings beaches which are around 1 hour 45 minutes.
Alternatively you can go west and visit Le Mont St. Michel which is just over 60 miles away and explore the coast towards Granville, well known for its oysters.
Golf
The Andaine Golf Club at Bagnoles de l'Orne is 8 miles from the gite. This is a 9 hole golf course with a river running through it. Rates are around 20€ for weekdays and 48€ at weekends.

All major supermarkets are close by. Leclerc at La Ferté-Macé, Super U at Bagnoles and Intermarché at Lassay. There is also a Hyper U at Mayenne.
Bagnoles also has a selection of fashionable shops as well as pleasant walks. There are also banks and chemists.
We have a list of all local markets which covers just about every day of the week.
The area is a mecca for really good restaurants from the fixed price menus aimed at local French working people to a Michelin Starred restaurant near Bagnoles - everything to suit the occasion and your budget.
Nearby forests and cycle paths are wonderful for exploring and we can help you plan your day out.
We are close to the edge of the Andaine Forest which is again great for walking and cycling. It is teeming with wildlife including birds, deer, red squirrels and even the occasional wild boar. Smaller animals such as weasels, hares, foxes and badgers also live there but are less visible. You may see the occasional "ragondin" or coypu in the river at the bottom of our hill. Originally from South America they were introduced into Europe and have become a pest.

About the Owner
We, George and Yvette, fell in love with France many years ago and spent most of our summer holidays here with our children. Since they are now grown up, we took the opportunity to move here permanently. We live in wonderful rural surroundings but are still close enough to England for our children to visit us and for us to visit them. Our house is next to the gites and if there is anything you need while you are here, we are more than happy to help. If you look at our guest reviews, that should help to convince you that we will make your holiday special.
Year property purchased: 2011
Why this location?
We fell in love with our property because it is in the heart of the countryside and is very peaceful and quiet. The roads are ideal for walking or cycling and we enjoy few things more than cycling to one of our favourite village restaurants and having a fixed price menu (10.50) including cider and wine and then gently cycling home again, often meeting up with friends in the restaurant. Though in the heart of the countryside, there are all amenities close by. Bagnoles de l'Orne is a great tourist attraction and there are always activities being held there during the summer. Not only that but there is a great selection of restaurants and beautiful walks in the town and through the forests.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
Though our house was originally built in the early 1800s it has been sympathetically modernised and has all the amenities that you will need for a comfortable holiday. One thing you will enjoy is the feeling of space outside in the garden and the fields beyond. There are 3.5 acres for you to enjoy as well as the swimming pool and you are welcome to help yourself to fruit such as apples, pears and plums when in season. Not only this but you are more than likely to be offered excess produce from Yvette's ever expanding vegetable plot!
