Between historical Angouleme and Jarnac and just 20 minutes from Cognac. Situated among vines, sunflowers and rolling country side. Local village has 2 restaurants and bar both 2 minute walk and Patisserie, butchers and Co Op store 15 minute walk. Jarnac 8 minutes in car has full range of supermarkets and all other shops and restaurants. Merignac is excellent for cycling and walking excursions amongst the very quiet country lanes or along the Charente river tow paths. Numerous famous villages, beaches of Royan and La Rochelle within easy reach.

Change over day saturdays and will be inflexible unless previously agreed. Departure time 10am. Arrival time 4pm.

Notes on accommodation
Accommodation is not fully accessible for disabled as there is one small step, 4 inches, between entrance hall and main living area. and 1 bedroom and the mezzanine sleeping area are upstairs. But two persons with limited mobility could use downstairs twin bed room with en suite. Access to other floors is by new stairs to mezzanine and ancient stairway to bathroom and double bedded room.
Outside
Own patio area and BBQ, Use of large garden and 6.5 x 4 meter single depth pool which is used by owners but guests needs will be paramount.
Coast/Beach
Local train from Jarnac to La Rochelle Angouleme or Cognac is frequent. All beaches are wide and sandy and ideal for children.

Golf at Cognac and Angouleme.
Special interest holidays
Boat hire, canoe and other boat hire close by. Guided river trips also readily available. Tours of Cognac distilleries. Numerous Brocantes every weekend in nearby towns and villages. Music feativals and theatre also available Beaches are nearby, 1 hours drive where there is a choice of sandy coves or large sweeping beaches.
Fish a speciality of the region and Fruits de Mer a speciallity.
Travel
Airports, Poitiers 1hr 15 mins. Bordeaux 1 hr 30 mins. La Rochelle 1 hour 20 mins. Limoges 1hr 30 mins. All approx. Calais is at least 7hr 30 mins away, Caen 5 hours and St Michel also 5 hours.It is possible to travel by Eurostar and change at Lille or Paris. Train times from Paris, Gare Montparnasse, is 2hrs 30 mins and Lille 3 hours, to Anguoleme.Car availabilty is recommended although bus stops for Angouleme, Cognac and Jarnac are two minutes from Gite. Service regular and fairly frequent.
Distances
All major shops and commerce are within easy reach. Angouleme is a major shopping city; Cognac is fair size and has many shops and bars and cafes. Jarnac is a small town with a range of supermarkets, shops restaurants and bars. Angouleme has many museums and historical buildings as has Cognac. Jarnac is the home of ex President Mitterand and has a museum dedicated to him. Cognac producers Courvoisier are also based in Jarnac. Cognac and Pineau distilleries are plentiful throughout the region.

Bookings are excepted from Saturday to Saturday but shorter periods may be able to be accommodated, particularly out of high season. Arrival times from 4.00pm and departures at 10..00 am. All payments to be deposited in British bank, Deposit of 30% on Booking and full payment 6 weeks before arrival. For late bookings full payment to be paid immediately booking confirmed.

About the owner
Jenny and Terry are both retired and live full time in France next to the Gite for hire. We are grandparents and enjoy children. We respect the guests privacy and aim to be absent as much as we can. The pool is foir the guests as is the garden and barn.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
we wanted a a new challenging life where we could enjoy new experiences. The area is beautiful and has a very good climate. The house is 200 years old and we have totally renovated it with local builders. It is furnished in french style with anglo bits and pieces and comfort is assured. The area is rich in history and good walking and cycling area with the river Charente a key feature. Local restaurants are very good and night life if you want it, is close by.
