Further details
There are many interesting small villages and larger towns in the region, and certainly more than you could explore in a two week holiday. Auray is a lovely old town with lots of shops and restaurants, an old port and an excellent Sunday market. Vannes is a large town on the edge of the Gulf of Morbihan with an old quarter bustling with good restaurants and small shops. Excellent markets are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays and a famous jazz festival in July. Carnac has excellent beaches but is also world famous for being an ancient and historic place with over 3,000 prehistoric megalithic stones. There is comprehensive information on places to visit and suggestions for activities on our personal web site (link below).

Guest comments
"Thank you very much for a wonderful holiday! We felt warmly welcome in your lovely cottage and more like visitors than paying guests. You have made it very 'homely' and the attention to detail is fantastic. We appreciated very much the maps and the books about the area and it was very nice of you to 'introduce' your neighbours to us in your information pack.” Eva & John Gauterin.
“In a word, your cottage was lovely. We liked the size of the cottage; it was scrupulously clean and really well equipped." Yvonne and Kelvyn Gracie.
"Arriving at La Ville au Tady was everything we expected - inviting, homely, comfortable and well equipped". Simon Upton & family.
"A beautiful, cosy, well equipped cottage. Wonderful garden. Lovely location. To be fair, these statements do not do justice to the fabulous cottage! It was just so wonderful!" Lisa Evans & family.

Owner profile
The family at La Ville au Tady
About the owner
La Ville au Tady is owned by Martin, Esther, Bethan and Megan, and we live in the UK.
After many happy summer holidays in Brittany, we decided to buy our own holiday cottage. We discovered a traditional longère in the countryside and fell in love with it. We feel very lucky to own such a beautiful old house, and invite you to share it when we are not holidaying there ourselves.
We price our weeks reasonably and aim to have the cottage occupied for as much of the year as possible. In this way we can help contribute to the local economy by employing our housekeeper and gardener, and help generate income for local businesses.
Year purchased: 2006
Why the owner chose a home in this location
La Ville au tady is located in beautiful rolling French countryside, yet just 5 miles from Josselin, recognised as one of the most beautiful and characterful towns in Brittany. Besides the miraculously well preserved medieval buildings, there is the Nantes-Brest canal, a great selection of restaurants, and the magnificent chateau. There are many events throughout the year including a medieval festival and free weekly open air music concerts in summer.
We love to visit Josselin's Saturday morning market, stock up with the best of local produce, and then have lunch at one of the good value pavement cafes and watch the world go by.
Exploring the local towns and villages via quiet country roads is a delight, by either car or cycle. Both the north and south coasts are within a one hour drive.
Unique benefits of the property
When we set about house hunting, we wanted a traditional countryside property that reflected the character and history of the region – in La Ville au Tady we found exactly what we were looking for. It is sad to see so many of the renovations of old properties have ripped out the heart and soul of the building. This has not happened at La Ville au Tady. The exterior of the longere is much the same as when it was built in 1868. The internal renovations have preserved the character of the exposed chestnut beams and inglenook fireplace with a massive granite stone hearth. We have furnished the cottage sympathetically with a complementary mixture of old pine, antique French and modern oak. The large gardens are a delight. We hope you enjoy staying there as much as we do.
