Close to Alpe d’Huez, France. La Source chalet is owned and managed by Michael Baldwin – ski enthusiast, mountaineer and hotelier. The chalet is a converted 220 year old traditional Oisans stone barn south facing with panoramic views of the surrounding area. It has been renovated to an extremely high standard, keeping the charm and character of the building whilst creating modern facilities. A new extension was completed in 2009 to provide a further 2 modern and stylist bedrooms with Italian shower rooms. Within the extension on the lower ground floor is a modern professional kitchen and spacious storage areas. A large south facing decked area with outdoor spa compliments the interior of the chalet for sun lounging, Al fresco eating and general view gazing! There is plenty of parking close to the chalet and a free village navette bus will take you to the ski lifts - 300 metres away.

Outside
La Source chalet faces due south with uninterrupted views of the Romanche valley below and the mountains of the Oisans and Ecrin ranges facing La Source.
In December and January the sun rises on the decking at 9.00am and sets at 4.00pm (7 hours) and during March and April the sun is still on the decking at 6.30pm - enjoy your post ski afternoon tea relaxing, enjoying the views and maybe some afternoon sun bathing!
Relax in the jacuzzi as the sun is setting and watch the Chamois feeding in the fields below the chalet.
Our guests tell us that the view from the chalet is one of the most spectacular sights from any ski chalet they have seen - come and judge for yourself!

1 family bedroom with twin/double beds and bunk beds (room for 4 persons).
1 bunk bedded room with private facilities - suitable for 2 children or 1 adult.

Large vaulted lounge with plenty of comfortable sofas and a dining area with seating for 16 persons. A separate sun lounge with fantastic uninterrupted mountain views. this room has a flat screen TV and a full library of books, maps, guides etc and a wide selection board games. WIFI available throughout the chalet.
A separate self contained apartment with galley kitchen and lounge area and 2 bedrooms can be combined with the main chalet for larger groups up to 20 persons

Prices indicated are for one week self catering for 20 persons with 9 bedrooms all with private facilities. email if you are interested in a renting for a smaller group, and we can provide a quote on the numbers and bedrooms required. Prices include: bed linen, toiletries, and local tourist tax Please bring your own towels and beach towels for the spa or swimming pools End of week cleaning charge is €150.00 euros. Caution to be paid on arrival €500.00. All rental payments by bank transfer

Changeover day
Winter months: December 2014 to April 2015 - Saturday change over for self catering guests. Catered and B&B guests throughout the year - flexible arrivals and departures.

Booking notes
Please note: Prices indicated are for 20 persons maximum (9 bedrooms) on a self catering basis for one week - normally Saturday. The chalet is rented out for full occupancy during the main UK and European school holidays.
If you are interested in renting the chalet for a slightly smaller group 12 to 16 persons outside the main school holiday periods - please email your requirements

About the area

Skiing
Villard Reculas is a beautiful traditional French ski mountain village which is situated at 1550 metres. Whilst it remains unspoilt it has easy access to the enormous Alpe d’Huez ski resort. Snow cannons have now been installed from the top of Signal Hill to the lowest slopes in Villard Reculas, to ensure a snow-sure return pistes throughout the long season. Alpe d’Huez is one of France’s top five alpine high altitude ski resorts and boasts an excellent snow record and extended season. It is renowned for its sunshine record and spectacular views of the Ecrin National Park Mountains.La Source Ski Chalet recognise the importance of good organisation, and therefore we will ensure that you are provided with ski, snowboard and boot hire the evening of your arrival, and ski passes will be awaiting you in readiness for the first lift.
We will make suggestions as to the most suitable ski schools, make reservations and introduce you to your school/instructor on your first day.

How to get there
Airport transfers to/from Grenoble are provided within the holiday price for our catered guests during the winter months. We can also provide airport transfers for our self catering guests during the winter season, and also offer a stop for food shopping en route back to La Source -email us for a costing
The La Source minibus can transport 16 guests and is equipped with child seats
A minibus service can be provided in the summer months for cyclists to and from Bourg d'Oisans or Allemont.

About the Owner

Michael Baldwin - ski enthusiast, mountaineer, cyclist and hotelier.
Settled at La Source in Villard Reculas after a career in London in the hospitality industry. Decided in 1998 to combine my professional expertise with my interests in mountains activities - in particular mountains sports: skiing, snow-shoeing, ski rando, hiking, Via ferrata, VTT, road cycling. Have not regretted the decision and enjoy hosting guests in the winter months around the Alpe d'Huez ski domaine, and in the summer pointing guests in the right direction for cycling and walking.

La Source chalet has possibly the best alpine view in Villard Reculas! Spacious south facing decking with outdoor spa with uninterrupted views across the valley and peaks beyond. A small picturesque Alpine village, yet linked efficiently to the large Alpe d'Huez ski area During the summer months the outside spacious decking is ideal for relaxing and entertaining, with plenty of sun loungers, deck chairs and BBQ. a BBQ is available for guests use as well as the inviting hot tub A bike work shop has recently been constructed to offer a safe, secure and equipped area for those running cycle repairs!
