This recently completed, architect-designed, conversion of pretty stone buildings bordering the courtyard of a 167 year old Charentaise farmhouse comprises three generously proportioned gites and swimming pool set within a three acre parkland setting. The sympathetic conversion has ensured the retention of much character, charm and original features in the creation of three spacious, comfortable gites. Surrounded by fields of sunflowers and wheat, interspersed with woodland. The area is ideal for cycling and walking. We are, however, only 1 1/2 miles from the village of Sauze Vaussais which offers a wide range of facilities. La Chouette is a four bedroomed gite. L'Hirondelle may be let as either a 4 or 3 bedroomed gite. Le Roitelet can be let as either a 3 or 2 bedroomed gite.

Changeover day
During July and August, changeover day is Saturday. Outside these months, the day can be flexible. Guests are welcome after 4pm on day of arrival and requested to vacate their gite by 10 am on day of departure.

L'Hirondelle (3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6)

This characterful gite is approached via a wide path from the car park. Entering through large French doors, an atrium rises from the tiled floor, with decorative frieze, to exposed original oak beams and a galleried landing. The open plan lounge complete with CD based hi fi system has an airy feel along with the kitchen and dining area comfortably seating eight people. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave and gas cooker. There is a mezzanine area that affords additional seating and views to front and rear of the property. There is a particularly spacious double room boasting an impressive french upholstered king size bed with matching furniture. The two twin bedrooms have oak furniture typical of the area, with prettily coordinated furnishings. The fully tiled bathroom comprises shower, vanity unit wc and heated towel rail. A fourth, en-suite double bedroom, is available making the gite ideal for eight and wheelchair friendly. |

La Chouette (4 Bedrooms, Sleeps 8)

| One enters this impressive gite through tall French doors that open into a vaulted atrium rising 6m from an ornately patterned tiled floor to original, magnificent oak roof timbers and a galleried landing. The spacious open plan living area comprises kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge. The kitchen is equipped with dish washer, washing machine, fridge freezer, microwave and gas cooker. The lounge and dining areas are well furnished with local items giving an authentic feel. There is a CD based hi fi system and TV/DVD are available if required. On the ground floor is a pretty twin bedroom and fully tiled wet room style shower room - making this gite very wheelchair friendly. Upstairs by way of an attractive turning staircase, there are two double and one twin bedded rooms with views to the ancient village of Vaussais. The second bathroom comprises marble-topped vanity unit, shower, WC and heated towel rail. An attractive galleried landing overlooks the atrium and courtyard. | |
Notes on accommodation
All gites are non smoking. Pets are not allowed. All bed linen/towels (excluding beach towels) are provided. Should a linen change be required, there will be a charge of £5 per person. Cot and high chairs are provided. All gites are provided with heating throughout - heating, if used, is charged additionally. Single week bookings during July/August are subject to a £50 per week surcharge.Winter lets are available prices to be negotiated.
Accessibility
Pathways from the car park to each gite are level. Ground floor bedrooms and bathroom facilities can be available in each gite (the wet room design is particularly suitable). The pool side is easily accessible by wheelchair, although there are no physical aids for entry and egress from the pool itself.
Outside
Each gite has a private garden, barbeque table and chairs and also a courtyard patio with table and chairs. The 10 x 5 metre fully terraced pool is securely fenced to meet all french safety standards, and sun loungers are provided. Within the three acres of grounds, there is a wide range of plantings, and a number of magnificent trees, several of which predate the house. Wildlife abounds in the area, guests will certainly see birds of prey, rabbits, gamebirds and red squirrels - they may also be fortunate enough to see badgers, foxes and deer. Swings, table tennis badminton and other games are available on site.
Coast/Beach
We are within 90 minutes drive of the numerous beaches to be found at and around La Rochelle. Off the La Rochelle coast are several interesting islands including Ile de Re and Ile d'Oleron.
Golf
Golf is available at Niort, Cognac and Poitiers. Horseriding and fishing are available locally. Cycling and walking opportunities are limitless.
Travel
Poitiers and Limoges airports are approximately 50 mins drive distant. Whilst La Rochelle airport is within 90 minutes drive. Car hire is available at the airports. Eurotunnel, Boulogne and Calais are approx 6 hours drive. Le Havre/ Caen/ Dieppe are approx 4 1/2 hrs drive.

Central to the Poitou Charentes, we have easy access to attractions that will appeal widely, whether the high tech of Futuroscope, the fascinating canals of the Marais Poitevin (Venise Vert), the historic Roman silver mine and Romanesque churches of Melle, the idyllic villages at almost every bend of the Charente river, the charms of Cognac or the simple pleasures of walking, picnicking or perhaps a visit to Vallee des Singes - there is much to appeal to all ages. Sauze Vaussais itself is a small village that boasts two weekly markets, supermarket, banks, hairdressers, restaurants, hotel etc. There is a ferme auberge serving excellent local specialities just 400 metres from the gites.
