Dating from the early 1800s, the house is situated in the centre of the historic village of St Privat des Pres. It was the original post relay station house and stables for the village and has been beautifully restored. It provides secure off-street parking for 3 cars within the gated courtyard. The house is essentially on three levels and has everything you may need for your stay. All the windows have shutters and in the warm summer mights it is just magic to sleep with the windows wide open and the shutters closed. In typical French style the house fronts directly onto the street although we usually use the side entrance through the double gates and the courtyard. The village has a small general store (Alimentation) as well as a small butcher within a 100 metres of the house. It is 12km from the regional market town of Riberac which has everything you will need and more. Both Perigueux and Angouleme are about 40 minutes away by car and Bordeaux one and a half hours.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday, with arrivals from 4pm. The property is to be vacated by 10am on day of departure

All towels and linen are provided and changed weekly. Also there is a light clean, once a week, for longer stays. Property is to be left clean and tidy on vacating. If this is not possible full cleaning will be arranged and cost deducted from bond. |
Notes on accommodation
The property is not really suitable for small children (ie younger than 5) as all bedrooms are on the upper levels and there are no safety gates on the stairs. The pool has a French standard safety alarm but no fence.
Outside
Large private walled garden with shade trees and large private saltwater pool and poolhouse with separate toilet. Covered terrace at rear of house with a large stone table for alfresco dining. An Australian gas barbecue with cooking utensils is in separate undercover area. The poolhouse also provides built-in seating, a table and chairs as well as a bar-area.
Coast/Beach
Lacanau, one of Europe's premier surfing beaches, is approximately one and a half to two hours drive away.
La Rochelle, with its maritime history, world renowned aquarium and great cafes and beaches is about the same distance.
Golf
Golf is available at two courses nearby. Golf de Langeveau is approx 20 minutes drive away and Perigueux is approx 35 minutes drive away and reputedly has the best municipal golf course in France.
Special interest holidays
Wine appreciation course with English speaking expert (sommelier) can be arranged upon request. Tailored French language tuition may be possible, depending on the time of year. Riberac is the self proclaimed 'Foie Gras Capital of France' and noted producer of walnuts and cheese.
Travel
We believe a car is essential to be able to enjoy the area. Car hire is available at the TGV station in Angouleme, airports at Bergerac and Bordeaux, in Perigueux and in Riberac.
Bordeaux airport - 1.5 hours.
Bergerac airport - 50 mins.
Angouleme airport - 45 mins.
Angouleme train station - 40 minutes.
Distances
We are only a few kms from the picturesque village of Aubeterre sur Dronne; 11kms from the market town of Riberac; 40 minutes from Angoulene and Perigueux.

There are two large supermarkets, good local shops and banks are located in Riberac approx 11 kms away. Please remember that all shops except the supermarkets close for two hours from 12 noon.
Local tennis courts are available for hire at St Privat, about 100 meters from the house - hire through the Alimentation. Canoe hire is at both Riberac and Aubeterre.
Fishing is available in local rivers and lakes. A demonstration of wrought iron forging is usually available at the Chateau de la Mothe which is short walk from the house.
Booking notes
Booking via email or fax. A 25% deposit required upon confirmation of booking. Balance six weeks prior to occupation date. A 250 Euros security bond will also be charged with the final payment. This will be returned two weeks after the rental is complete less any appropriate deductions for breakages/damage and any aditoional cleaning required etc.
