Guest comments
26th October 2006.
We have like the old grape vines; our roots grow deeper each time we come to Sentout. We have enjoyed our month here. It is an especially beautiful season to visit: good weather, the attractions are not crowded. This is like a second home for us.

We have been very comfortable here, with wineries just round the corner and lust green scenery all around. The Dune du Pilat was a must, definitely climb to the top. The ruins of the Abbey were fantastic. The weather has been a bit wet but we did pick a great day to go to the beach. We did find that we needed to eat in because we were a bit far out of town but the Atlantic Salmon was great.

Owner profile

About the owner
30 years ago, after working in many different countries: France, Germany, Morocco, Cameroun and the Congo we finally ended up in Bordeaux.
After seven years in Bordeaux, my manager suggested, for my 50th birthday, that it might be good for my career to go back to Paris.
But my wife, Mary, a native of Bordeaux, didn't really like the idea of having to leave her family and all the pleasures of living in Bordeaux with the sea, the good food, good wines and the mild climate.
Why the owner chose a home in this location
So we decided to run a vineyard.
We then happened to visit a small wine chateau, cheap but partly derelict with a closed courtyard, towers, turrets, arches and columns, a dream!
The owner, an 80 years strong man asked us: ‘Where do you come from ?’
I answered that I was from the Champagne region, ‘Well, come in, I am myself from the east but people here are all stupid’.
And we bought Chateau Sentout but the licence to replant the vineyard was lost and
we decided to, instead, develop holiday accommodation.
I was at that time collecting cars and to achieve this we had to sell them to pay for new roofs and our guests are always surprised during their first visit when we tell them, ‘This roof is a Jaguar Mark 2, this one a Triumph Roadster and this one a Triumph Renown’
Unique benefits of the property
Chateau Sentout is a place that gradually reveals it's secrets to you.
From the old bakehouse by the gates to the tower where the Bishops of Bordeaux used to stay, it is filled with history. From the original wine press and the arches of the old wine store, Sentout retains the calm tranquillity that must have existed for hundreds of years.
The gardens, in turn formal and natural give each apartment a space of its own, allowing guests to enjoy their privacy whilst still being a part of Sentout as a whole.
The chapel has been restored from a ruined shell to a calm and beautiful space.
There are few places in the world with the charm of this chateau and the same level of beauty and tranquillity and certainly there is nowhere else better place to relax and unwind.
