Providing cosy, flexible accommodation, this 28 square metres apartment was refurbished in August 2012 and is fresh and pristine for the 2012/13 season. As a family we have confirmed that it sleeps 5 in reasonable comfort and is super-convenient for skiing - located on the same floor as the ski lockers and access to the pistes (when snow conditions permit - alternatively the free shuttle bus stops some 25 metres from the front door). The summer range of activities eg walking, biking, swimming, parascending, archery, golf etc is awesome. The apartment's efficient design, flexible accommodation, bright interior and cosy wood-panelled ceilings enable us to relax after a tough day on the slopes. A guaranteed undercover parking space is included. A TV is installed with a Freesat dish, giving access to a host of channels, including BBC 1, BBC2, ITV, Channels 4 & 5 etc etc. Wifi access in the apartment is available at a local charge of 20 Euros per stay (of up to 3 weeks duration).

Location
Accessibility
The apartment block is served by two lifts.
The apartment has its own dedicated undercover parking space with key access.
Golf
For summer visitors, the Les 2 Alpes 9 hole golf course is an option.
Skiing
Les 2 Alpes sits high in the southern Alps at 1650m, with great views from the glacier to the rugged Ecrins mountains and Mont Blanc. The lift system tops out at 3600m, offering 220km of pistes with a 2300m vertical drop and extensive off-piste skiing.
Snow reliability is excellent on higher slopes, even in a poor winter. Above 2200m most of the runs are north-facing and the top glacier section guarantees good snow (this is a summer ski area). There is a great variety of snow-sure slopes, including an extensive glacier area, lots of good off-piste terrain, and one of the most extensive and admired snowparks in Europe, with a halfpipe, kickers, 2 boardercross courses and many jumps. Our apartment is situated on the Pied Moutet mountain with straightforward access (steepish blues) to the glacier side.
The six-day pass also allows you to ski in Alpe-d’Huez (a shuttle-bus goes on Wednesdays and Thursdays, or alternatively you could travel by helicopter!) and in Serre Chevalier or Italy.
How to get there
We regularly drive to Les 2 Alpes, taking 9 hours from Calais (more during peak periods) at legal speeds and with a couple of comfort stops. We know where the cheap petrol stations are located - please ask!
The closest airports are Grenoble, Chambery, Lyon and Geneva with regular flights from many UK airports. Bus links are available from airports (train necessary from Chambery) and car hire is available.
Distances
Distances from Les 2 Alpes to:- Calais - 940km (585 miles); Alpe d'Huez - 32km; Serre Chevalier - 65km; Montgenevre and the Italian Alps - 74km.
The 2 villages that combine to form "Les 2 Alps" are Mont de Lans (with a market on Wednesday mornings) and Venosc at either end of and below the resort, whilst the nearest regional town is Bourg d'Oisans, distance 19km, with an excellent market on Saturdays.
Further details
There is a host of shops in resort, both food (best is Marche U Express; also Spar and 2 "Casino" shops and a Carrefour Montagne; try also "La Ferme" selling prepared local dishes for eating at home) as well as fashion/clothing/equipment retailers. There are numerous restaurants; Chalet Mounier for a special occasion; L'Abri and Il Caminetto for pizzas, and L'Igloo for a good cheap lunch in resort. There is also a wide variety of bars - those popular with the British are Smokey Joes; The Secret; and The Red Frog; The Dutch is also rated as good fun; Le Saxo is a lively, young French bar, with Les Lutins being more traditional.
There are lots of bars/restaurants on the slopes.
Booking notes
A deposit of 20% of the total cost is required to confirm your booking, the balance is due 8 weeks prior to your departure, so bookings made within 8 weeks of departure date require full payment. A deposit of 250E is payable locally, fully refundable at the end of your stay provided the apartment is left as it is found.

Owner profile
About the owner
Skiing has been a regular and important part of our lives for many years, and it is surprisingly satisfying to observe our daughters catch the bug and easily surpass 'the Rents' in enthusiasm and ability. The big bonus to owning in Les 2 Alpes is the amazing variety of summer activities that is available and which we also enjoy. The temperature in August often seems to be as hot as we would wish it to be, without the humidity that is often associated with beach holidays in, say, the Riviera or the Spanish costas.
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We've skiied in Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France over many years, and enjoyed the mountains in summer too. It was the assured snow conditions in Les 2 Alpes, and relatively straightforward access by car, that persuaded us to buy here. Having rented in the resort twice, and scoured it for the second home apartment that would suit us most, we chose our apartment for 3 reasons:-
1 Location - on the piste with ski-in/ski-out capability, given normal snow, 20 metres from apartment door.
2 Location - elevated position within the resort, with great views to the south; covered car parking.
3 Location - quieter position than some others in this lively resort yet with easy access to the range of facilities.
