Situated in the heart of Pezenas (the home of Molière), a former 18th century convent offers character apartments for weekly rentals. A 2 minute walk from the centre of renaissance Pezenas, this remarkable property offers four spacious apartments which combine all modern conveniences while retaining many original features and the fantastic ambiance of the convent. The apartments have been superbly designed and decorated, from the individually, handcrafted chandeliers to the intricate ironwork galleries created by a famous local artist. All fixtures, fittings and appliances are modern and blend effortlessly alongside traditional southern-French antiques. A huge, enclosed Mediterranean garden with palm trees and mature plants features a protected swimming pool with state-of-the-art ‘oxygène actif’ UV cleansing system (no chlorine) and a jet stream for serious swimmers.

Notes on prices
The "one bedroom price" for the Pierrot is 900€ per week up to the 7th July.

Changeover day
In the peak season the Marguerite is on Friday changeover and the Pierrot is on Saturday changeover. In off peak periods (Oct to May) we are flexible on arrival dates.

Marguerite - 2 bedrooms, sleeps 4-6

Two large bedrooms on the second floor with garden views, antique furniture and marble fireplaces. The first bedroom has a Queen size bed and an en-suite with toilet, traditional claw-foot bath and shower. The second bedroom has two singles and an en-suite with shower and toilet. The mezzanine has a pull out sofa bed. The kitchen is small but fully equipped including dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, oven, fridge, freezer and gas/electric cook top. The spacious living and dining areas include a large antique table that seats 6 to 8 people, sofa, club chairs and cocktail table. The entire ground floor of the apartment is the living/dining/kitchen. It has been left uncluttered and is light and airy. Through large french doors the apartment has its own private sunny terrace which includes garden table and chairs for outdoor dining. The walls of the building are over a meter thick in places so there's no need for air conditioning and in Winter they are centrally heated.

Pierrot - 2 bedrooms, sleeps 4

The romantic Queen size bedroom has garden views, antique furniture and marble fireplaces, and shutters to ensure a good lie-in! The en-suite bathroom contains a traditional iron cast bath, shower and toilet. Though this is a two bedroom apartment we are offering it as a one bedroom apartment for couples outside school holidays. The kitchen is open plan to the spacious living/dining area on the ground floor. The kitchen is fully equipped including dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, oven, fridge, freezer and gas/electric cook top. The living /dining area includes a large antique table, sofa, club chairs and cocktail table. It has been left uncluttered and is light and airy. A second living space is on the mezzanine floor with a view out through the large french windows to the garden and pool. Outside the apartment there is a private terrace dining area surrounded by shrubs.

Notes on accommodation
Each apartment is furnished with linens and towels, including pool towels. Cleaning at the end of your stay is included and extra maid service is available at an extra cost if required. If you require a cot, high chair or stair guards for children, please request this with your booking.
The properties are improved each year, most recently with the installation of new kitchens in each apartment.
During off peak periods we offer long term rates, perfect for guests from Australia, New Zealand and the US who want a base to explore the area. Please contact me for a quote.

Accessibility
This property has a spiral staircase leading to the bedrooms so is not suitable for elderly or wheelchair users.

Outside
The seclusion of the "secret garden" makes it one of those places where you instantly relax. Though just 2 minutes' walk from the bustle of Pezenas centre, it is fully surrounded by a 2m wall so it is peaceful and has mature trees so you will always find sun or shade. The swimming pool is surrounded by a wooden fence and has a child alarm. It is 9 x 5 metres, is equipped with a jet stream and is cleaned by oxygen active elements which eliminate the need for chlorine. It is for use only by guests of the 4 apartments and the owners. Loungers are provided by the pool.
Hammocks and hanging chairs and benches are dotted around the garden so you'll find a corner to curl up with a book. Barbeques are provided. Also a volleyball net can be put up between the trees, bicycles are available for use by guests and there is a kids' playhouse.
Each apartment has a private dining terrace which leads onto the garden.

Coast/Beach
The Mediterranean coastline is just 12 miles from Pézenas. Wonderful child-friendly beaches with all water sports facilities. If you prefer a rocky cove suitable for snorkeling, head to Cap d'Agde. There are also some lovely little port villages with great seafood restaurants within a 15 minute drive.

Golf
Choice of golf courses at Béziers, Lamalou and Cap d’Agde.

Special interest holidays
Antiquing holidays. Pezenas has some 40 antique and bric a brac shops and the area is full of interesting flea markets, vide greniers "trocantes" and "brocantes".

Travel
The nearest airports are
Beziers at 1/2 hour - flights from Luton, Bristol, Dusseldorf, Oslo and Stockholm
Montpellier 45 mins - flights from Gatwick, Stansted, Leeds, Brussels, Frankfurt.
Carcassonne 1hr, 10 mins - flights from Dublin, Glasgow, Brussels, Liverpool, E. Midlands, Stansted/
A car is highly recommended for exploring the area however if you arrive in Beziers we can organise a taxi pick up and drop off and the Couvent is within walking distance of all facilities in Pezenas.

Montpellier - beautiful city well worth a day trip - 1 hour
St Guillheme le Desert - interesting village in the foothills of the Cevennes - 45 mins
Bouzigues, Meze, Marseillan and Sete - port towns with great seafood restaurants - 20-40 minutes. Famous for canoe jousting in Summer!
Roquebrun - village towards the Haut Languedoc National Park - good start point for a day hike with stunning views
Faugeres - home of some of the Languedoc's best known wineries - 30 mins
Canal du Midi - 30 mins

The lively town of Pezenas is generally regarded as the jewel in the Languedoc crown. Located in the heart of wine-producing country, 30 minutes west of Montpellier, 20 minutes north of the Mediterranean coast and 30 minutes south of the beautiful Languedoc Regional Park, the town encompasses all the romanticism of the south of France, together with traditional architecture and everyday living.
Wonderful choice of restaurants in the winding streets and many summer festivals, concerts and cultural events.
Also famous throughout France for its antique shops and bric-a-brac yards and the weekly Saturday market.

“Excellent accommodation in a beautifully calm setting”
My husband and I had a lovely 2 weeks here with our 2 young children here. The garden is lovely - very peaceful - lots of shade - with a special feel to it. For the first time in his life my very busy 4 year old buy spent some time "chilling" by himself in the swinging chair seats and hammocks. My only "complaint" would be that the metal spiral staircase along with the open mezzanine was not the most practical with an active toddler - but don't let that put you off. We fully recommend this place.

“Absolute heaven”
We all adored it. The teens lazed about by the lovely chlorine free pool and were able to wander safely into the charming town of Pezenas. The inclusion of wi-fi meant they could get their occasional "Techno fix" ! Our youngest had all she needed too... a pool and space to wander with shady spots and hammock /swingseats etc. ....and yet all within the safe confines of Convent walls

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Pezenas is a great location - the Herault in general gets the best weather of the Languedoc and Pezenas offers so much more than simply a beach location. There's history, culture, art, restaurants and museums. And getting a character property so close to all of this yet with a garden and pool is very special! Everyone who sees it falls in love with it!

Unique benefits of the property
It's very unusual to get a character property that has a secluded garden and pool so close to the restaurants and shops. Most other properties are modern villas or else they are in villages around Pezenas and you have to drive for any outing.
