The location of this first floor apartment is exceptional being only a short distance from both the shopping area and the ski slopes. In summer the range of activities is considerable. There is walking, biking and pony trekking in the mountains with glorious views, paragliding and rock climbing, swimming, tennis and golf in the vicinity and a full range of water sports on Lake Annecy. In winter Grand Bornand is a well-established, fully linked ski resort with over 200km of marked runs gathered around a genuine alpine village. There are also extensive cross country trails and snowy walking paths. An article entitled "A Mountain Mecca", published in the March 2007 issue of "French Property News", described Le Chinaillon as "One of the most family-friendly ski resorts in the area (the Haute-Savoie), it is popular all the year round with skiing and snowboarding in the winter giving way to walking and golf, as well as sailing and water sports on Lake Annecy in the summer."

Notes on accommodation
With an internal area of 63 square metres, this flat is far more spacious than those built more recently. The 17 square metre balcony is a wonderful bonus, especially in the summer months. The flat is kept snug and warm with thermostatically controlled radiators and there is endless hot water on tap.
Location
Accessibility
We regret that the flat has no wheelchair access being on the first floor without the benefit of a lift.
Outside
This flat benefits from a very large (17 sq mts) L-shaped balcony which faces south and west, giving sun throughout the day. The mountain views from this balcony are wonderful. A table and chairs are provided for al fresco dining.
How to get there
Geneva airport, which is served by any number of international and budget airlines, is less than an hours drive away. There are many car hire firms at the airport. Alternatively, taxis can offer a transfer service. To drive from channel ports one should allow about 8 hours. There is a good rail link to Annecy and a bus service from there to Le Grand Bornand. Whilst a car is not essential, many of our guests find them useful to get the most out of their holiday, especially in the summer.
Distances
The village Le Chinaillon is about a ten minute drive from the town of Le Grand Bornand. The historic city of Annecy, with its beautiful lake, is about 40 minutes drive.
Further details
During the winter and summer holiday seasons the village of Le Chinaillon has many shops, including a Spar supermarket, where all self-catering holiday supplies can be purchased. There are also two bakeries. The village also offers a good number of restaurants, many ski hire and holiday clothing shops and souvenir shops a plenty. Throughout the year a very good selection of shops is to be found in Le Grand Bornand, some 10 minutes drive away. Furthermore, there are two hypermarkets in Thones which is about 20 minutes away. There is an ATM at the village Tourist Information Office and a number of banks in Le Grand Bornand.
Booking notes
Bookings are made directly with the owners in UK who supply guests with a wealth of information designed to allow them to get the best out of their stay. Reservations are confirmed once a contract has been agreed and a 25% deposit paid. The balance is payable 8 weeks prior to occupation
Owner profile
About the owner
Pip and David Ryder Richardson, the owners of Flat 3 Le Mont Blanc, live in UK but visit Le Chinaillon on a very regular basis in winter and summer.
We love our flat as do our 3 married daughters and our 6 grand-children! The youngsters adore the skiing in this village where they feel completely safe and are very well coached. They also spend time at the flat in the summer to take advantage of the fresh mountain air and the wonderful facilities in nearby Le Grand Bornand where the huge swimming pool is a special favourite.
As we are retired, we can spoil ourselves with up to 5 weeks skiing per year and we never tire of the pistes that are right on the doorstep. Over the ten or so years that we have had property in Le Chinaillon, the locals have welcomed us into their midst.
Year purchased: 2008
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
In the 1990's we used to go to Meribel and ski in Les Trois Vallees. As time wore on, prices got higher and higher, ski lift queues got longer and longer and the resort became overrun with non-French visitors.
Shortly after the Millennium, we were persuaded, by friends who had lived in the Grand Bornand area for many years, to have a look at some properties in the village of Le Chinaillon. We fell in love with the village and its residents straight away and, along with two other couples, built and ran a large chalet at the top of the village. This we sold after a number of years and now have a smaller flat in the village itself.
We love the skiing - no queues, the walks - freedom and fresh air, and the locals - very warm and welcoming.
Unique benefits of the property
The flat is very well placed being a short walk from the village centre with its shops and restaurants and only a couple of hundred metres from the pistes. There is a great Ski-Bus service, with a stop right outside the door, which services the village, Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz.
At 63 square meters, our flat is considerably more spacious than those being built today. The huge balcony makes the most of the panoramic mountain views.
Please come and visit the flat to see for yourself just what a great spot this is!
