"Relaxing Retreat :-)"
What an amazing place! The property is situated in a beautiful location, close enough to visit local towns and attractions whilst being remote enough to be thoroughly relaxing. Joy and John's hospitality was second to none, and made the stay all the more enjoyable / relaxing. The girls loved feeding the chickens on a daily basis, and we would definitely recommend a visit to Grotte de Villars which is beautiful. We are already looking to re-book for a future visit :-)

"A special place to stay"
La Varenne is a great place to rest and relax with all the necessary facilities and more besides. The spaciousness of the house and pool area meant that we all had plenty of personal space in which we could unwind and enjoy ourselves. There was plenty to do in the surrounding areas for days out and Joy and John kindly helped us with bookings and ideas which made everything so easy. The house itself is very comfortable, immaculately clean and our hosts were most attentive to our personal needs. My only regret is that we chose to go for one week instead of two - we really didn't want to leave! This property exceeded our expectations, was excellent value for money and we couldn't have wished for more gracious hosts. Thanks for a fabulous holiday - we will definitely be back .

"Peace and tranquility in Dordogne"
We spent a wonderfully peaceful week here with time to write, travel out and about and think about if and when we would move to live in France. The house is magnificent, extremely comfortable and with plenty of space for larger groups (we were only two!). Being February we couldn't explore the pool, but can imagine what fun it must be in the warmer months. Joy and John are wonderful hosts and happy to give any information we needed. We'd stayed in the area before so it was great to visit beautiful places like Brant?me again. It's a lovely setting and we'd highly recommend it. And yes, we're moving to France at the end of September!

"La Varenne Holiday"
What an amazing week we have just had in Joy and John's villa - La Varenne! Having come in search of sunshine, swimming and simply chilling out our holiday ticked all the boxes. La Varenne is situated in a lovely area of France and we by no means explored all there was to offer - but went to the caves, canoeing and for bike rides as well as having ample time for doing not a lot by the pool. The farmhouse itself is very comfortable, well furnished and has plenty of room, though we didn't really spend much time inside due to the gorgeous surroundings The chickens provided extra entertainment for the children! We will most definitely be going back sooner rather than later!! Finally Joy and John were the perfect hosts

"Our daughter arrived before us and called to say 'Mum, it's lovely, you'll love it', and she was right. We had a party for my 80th birthday on the terrace: it was wonderful. We had room for close family to stay for a few days. John and Joy couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. When we went out anywhere, we would call the farmhouse 'home'.
It's so peaceful, but not too far away from anything, and we had such good weather. Our daughter stayed with us, and she loved the pool and the walks. We stayed for 2 months, and didn't want to leave. We will definitely go back."

"Wonderful hosts, wonderful accommodation. Joy and John were kindness itself, and went out of their way to make sure that we had a memorable holiday. I would definitely recommend La Varenne to anyone considering the Dordogne."

"We had a wonderful stay. The house is luxurious and comfortable and you've thought of everything."

About the Owner
We bought La Varenne as a holiday home 'with a project', and love it so much we moved out here 3 years later. We feel very lucky.
Year property purchased: 2006
Why this location?
We renovated the barn intending to create a maison des amis for family and friends, then we moved in - 'down-sizing'?!! We now have a beautiful 4-bedroomed farmhouse, perfect for families and friends, and anyone who likes a bit more space. With good broadband access, we're able to work from home, and walk, swim or cycle in the afternoon - which is just as well, as the local restaurants are wonderful.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
The Dronne Valley is beautiful. We're on the edge of a peaceful village, rather than the middle of nowhere, and are just a short drive from everything we need. The local café is only a 5 minute walk away, and improving our French is a great reason to visit!
