Le Repos des Hiboux is a little haven of 2 and 3 bedroom quality gites with a 12x6m heated swimming pool and automatic safety cover. Each gite is fully equipped with satellite TV and it’s own enclosed garden. There are communal eating and play areas for all to enjoy, relax and socialise. We can accommodate parties from 2 people up to 18 people plus 2 extra cots. Ideal for larger families or friends wishing to holiday together! Located in the North of the Charente-Maritime, Villenouvelle is a small hamlet nestled in between open countryside. Just 5 minutes away is our nearest village with all local amenities including, co-op, boulangerie, doctors, dentist, pharmacy, bar/restaurant and church.

Notes on prices
Prices are per week and include bedding and electricity. Towels and an additional linen change can be provided at an extra charge. Changeover day is Saturday during main season but flexible outside of main season.
Discounts available for long term lets of 3 months or more (L'Athena = £400 per month incl. elec, The Wheatfields = £500 per month plus elec and Les Tournesols = £600 incl. elec).
Pets welcome outside of July and August.

Les Tournesols & The Wheatfields (Sleeps 6/8)

Sleeps 6/8 plus 2 cots These large gites have a separate lounge with sofabed (Wheatfields only), wood burner and downstairs WC. There is a comfortable fully equipped kitchen diner, leading to a terraced patio, garden and sun loungers overlooking open countryside. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms, the master bedroom having an en-suite shower room. A further double bedroom at the rear with a double bed which can convert to twin singles if necessary. The third and smallest bedroom easily holds full size bunk beds. There is also a separate washroom (bath & shower in The Wheatfields) and WC. The gites are equipped with all the usual amenities including oven and hob, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, and 2 fridge/freezers ideal for large families or extra drinks! In the lounge there is satellite TV, video, DVD, a music system and a games/toy box. NOTE:The availability calendar will only show as occupied when both properties are booked. Notes on accommodation
Family friendly - Having two young children ourselves we have, where possible tried to ensure the whole area is child friendly and safe. Our heated swimming pool is not only fenced but also has an automatic key operated cover for added security. There is a video and DVD library for young children, garden toys and Playstation available for your use. Cots, highchairs (indoor & outdoor), stair gates for both the top and bottom of the stairs, baby relaxer chairs, baby baths and changing mats are all available, please ask when booking.
Outside
The farmhouse and gites are set around a central courtyard. Aswell as an enclosed garden with sun loungers for each gite, there is also a communal BBQ area for all to enjoy and socialise. A complimentary BBQ is offered on the Sunday after arrival during the main season (July and August). There is a 12x6m heated swimming pool with internal roman stairs and automatic safety cover, ideal for families with smaller children. The swimming pool area is easily large enough to allow sun loungers for all with a small garden area and shade alongside. Garden jenga, petanque and bicycles are all available free of charge for guest use.
Coast/Beach
Beaches on the Atlantic coast are all within easy reach.
Fouras, La Chátelaillon-Plage and La Rochelle are all approx. 45 minutes with Royan being slightly further at approx. 1 hr. The islands of Ile de Re and Ile D'Oleron are only an hour away, famous for their beautiful white sandy beaches.
Golf
Excellent golf courses located in Niort and Saintes, both within a 30 minute drive.
Travel
Airports: La Rochelle - 45 minutes, Angouleme - 1hr, Poitiers - 1hr 10 minutes and Bordeaux - 1hr 30 minutes. All are serviced by low cost airlines with car hire available at the airports. Ferry ports: Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo all between 4-5 hrs. Boulogne and Calais approx 8 hrs. Directions available on request after booking.
Distances
Nearest village with all amenities is only 5 minutes away. Large supermarket 8 minutes. The historical town of St. Jean D'Angely is only 15 minutes and has something for everyone from Go Karting to markets and an aquatic centre. Ideally placed for outings to La Rochelle, The Marais Poitevin, Cognac, Poitiers and Bordeaux - Not forgetting to mention zoos, museums, a donkey sanctuary, Futuroscope, the Aquarium and even a Silver Mine.
Further details
The Charente Maritime can offer you both rest and recuperation by our heated pool or if you prefer, there are many attractions nearby to explore. To try and help you plan your holiday, take a look at some suggested excursions.
Full Day
1.Royan - Morning visit to La Palmyre zoo. Afternoon spent on the beach or a visit to Ile D’ Oleron.
2.La Rochelle. Visit to the Aquarium in the morning followed by a walk around the harbour and La Rochelle Old Town.
3.Ile de Ré – Famous for it’s beautiful beaches. Have a drive around the islands before choosing one of the many beeches. Walk around the harbour at St Martin and find a good restaurant.
4.Cognac/Jarnac - Famous for the distilleries of the world‘s best selling cognacs.
5.Saintes – Large shopping centre with the advantage of historic monuments within walking distance. Many good restaurants.
6.Bassin d’Arcachon – The Dune du Pyla is a must. If you have time, spend the afternoon and evening in Bordeaux, 1hr further north and on the way home.
7.Bordeaux - Worth a day trip just to see the magnificent buildings.
8.Futurescope – Theme park located near Poitiers. 9.Rochefort – A visit to the Corderie Royale and the construction of Hermione.
Half Day
1.Surgeres – Pretty and historic market town.
2.St. Jean D’Angley – Historic town with the Abbey Royale and Fountain.
3.Marais Poitevin – Aptly called ‘Venise Vert’ because of its canal network. Great place for an afternoon’s trip when the heat of the sun has gone. Many riverside restaurants offering a good selection of meals for midday or evening.
4.Chize Zoo – Not as large as La Palmyre, however, only 10 minutes away and worth a visit if you have children and are short of time.
5. Dampierre Sur Boutonne This beautiful renaissance chateau is only 5 minutes away. Destroyed by fire in 2002, you are able to visit the chateau and watch the progressing renovations. Coupled with beautiful gardens, a maze, and picnic tables, this place is a must see.
