This is an area rich in history, on the medieval pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella. Wonderful cycling countryside. Excellent classical and sacred music recitals in the region; Abbaye aux Dames and local churches.

Outside
The property opens onto a wisteria-shaded gazebo for lunch time alfresco dining, protected from the Charentaise sun. The pretty courtyard to the fore is perfect for BBQ's, the long mature garden of lawn and shrubs edged with fig and plum fruit trees. A rear terrace is perfect for sundowners, watching the sun setting over the vineyards. BBQ and garden furniture are supplied.
Coast/Beach
40 mins away are the glorious sandy pine-fringed Atlantic beaches of la Grande Côte and la Côte Sauvage. The chic seaside resort of Saint Georges de Didonne is 25 mins drive and further up the coast is beautiful Saint-Palais s/Mer. The traditional resort of Royan is 30 mins drive. A ferry from Royan crosses the Gironde Estuary to Atlantic surfing beaches, such as Lacanau, about an hour away. The magical L'ile d'Oléron is an hour’s drive.
Golf
Super 18 hole, par 72 golf course at Cognac with undulating fairways and vineyard views. Nearby Saintes hosts a varied par 68, 18 hole course.
Travel
Nearest airports are Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Bergerac and Limoges served by RyanAir and BmiBaby. The nearest Channel port is Saint-Malo with Brittany Ferries; 4 hours drive away. Calais is a 7 hour drive and Cherbourg is 6 hours. Use of a car is recommended.

Friendly Auberge ‘La Goule Beunaise’ a 5 mins walk away in Berneuil which also has a local épicerie. Several local gourmand restaurants are highly recommended: Le Rustica at Saint-Léger 3km, Le Moulin de la Baine at Chaniers 12km, L’Amaryllis at Courcoury 10km. Distillery tours and tasting in Cognac include Hennessy, Rémy Martin, Martell. The village of Tesson is 4km away and has a boucherie, pharmacie, supermarket and a wonderful boulangerie: the perfect cycle ride for your breakfast croissants. Regular local markets offering wine, cognac, pineau (a local aperitif), oysters and fresh farm produce. The Zoo de la Palmyre is 30 mins away with over 1600 ‘residents’. A visit to the ‘Aquarium de La Rochelle’ is a marvellous experience. 25 mins away ‘Les Antilles de Jonzac' offers indoor swimming pools, beaches, tropical gardens and lagoon all year round regardless of the weather outside. The beautiful wine regions of Médoc, Saint-Emilion and Côtes de Bourg are within an hour’s drive.

A 20% deposit is required when booking, with the balance becoming due 8 weeks before your holiday. A refundable security deposit of £400 is required with final payment. Payment is normally by cheque. Discounts for long winter lets are available on application.
