Beautiful character stone farmhouse and outbuildings with private pool (10x5m) in a fenced off section of the garden. Secluded walled grass gardens for dining/bbq's. Fun for all with a games barn-table tennis & darts for the more competitive, or relax in the hammock under the shady trees with a glass of Saumur Champigny. Bread/croissants delivered daily at the kitchen window by Lydie! Nearby Loudun, 5 mins drive, has restaurants, weekly open market, supermarkets & all shops. The house is very well equipped with comfortable beds/sofas and caters for all ages, including young children with stair gates and highchair. Ideal for groups of friends or families and a great location for exploring the vinyards & chateaux of the Loire valley-Chinon 20 mins drive. Area excellent for cycling, kayaking on the Loire river, scifi fun at Futuroscope theme park-45 mins drive and the zoo at Doue great for a day out for any age-40 mins drive. Relax, swim, fun!

Notes on accommodation
Very spacious living accommodation and comfortable beds throughout with 2 staircases either end of the property. Comfortable sofas and seating arrangements with carpets in the bedrooms and hard floors downstairs. The kitchen is light and airy with a good selection of crockery/cookware,electric hand appliances/coffee maker, indoor and outdoor glass/plastic ware. Instant on-demand hot water supply for showers and in cooler months there is central heating and an open log fire in the sitting room.

Accessibility
Ground floor bunk bedroom with en-suite accessible by small step into house and small step into bedroom landing area.

Outside
The pool is for your own private use-10mx5m with a gradient 1m-2m depth. There is a 1m deep walking safety ledge around the deeper end and a ladder into the shallow end. The fence and outbuildings safely separate the pool from the rest of the garden. Outside the pool area is a swing frame and the rest of the garden is laid to lawn with roses around the edges and outbuildings.
There is a separate shady garden area with a hammock and large BBQ with outside dining table,chairs & parasol.
Cars can be parked in the open garage within the grounds and the only access to the grounds is through the large wooden entrance gates.

July 2011 - We had a lovely time at La Touche - what a beautiful gite it is; so peaceful and private. We loved the fact you haven't over-gentrified it and have retained its innate rustic charm.We have come home very relaxed and refreshed, and wish we could have stayed longer!

About the owner
I live in a village close to Bath, England and we have had our house in Arcay for 14 years. We love spending time in Arcay and have had great fun with local artisans and neighbours becoming friends working together on the house, putting in the pool or holding the baby while we climbed on the roof! It is a house for gatherings and we enjoy housefuls of grandparents, parents, growing children, cousins and friends joining us out there.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
I knew the Loire Valley as a child and so when we thought to look to buy something in France it was the first place we headed for. The ease of getting here, the beautiful magnificent chateaux and towns with great markets and restaurants were real positives, as well as the sunshine south of the Loire river. The house itself was instantly attractive with the beautiful soft Tuffeau stone, outbuildings and wonderful beams inside, even though we had a bit of work to do on the house, outbuildings and gardens to bring it back to life. The peaceful village location and short drives to many of the local attractions, is quite unique when many holiday houses in France are either very remote or in busy towns.

Unique benefits of the property
In just an easy 3 1/2 drive from Caen you can close the gates and feel secluded in peace and tranquility. The enclosed garden offers separate areas for either lounging by the pool, snoozing in the hammock or a game of table tennis in the games room. The spacious rooms and outside eating areas are great for entertaining and barbecuing under shady trees, bright sunshine or big starry skies. The property is not overlooked by any neighbouring houses and the adjacent road is used mostly by the odd tractor but the village is just a stroll away. The area around Arcay offers such diverse entertainment from the culture of Chateaux, to boats on the Loire and quirky art exhibitions - Chateau d'Oiron has been a favourite of all of us at all ages!
