About the owner
We are two couples who own the house - one living in the UK, the other in New Zealand. We're old friends from way back and we just fell in love with the area and the house when we were on holiday there six years ago. But we have only really begun to discover the wider Languedoc region, with its ancient cities, mediaeval abbeys and Cathar castles; mountain walks and varied coastline less than half an hour away.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We were attracted by the mix of French and Spanish culture in this area of Catalonia, minutes from the Spanish border. Ceret, the local town, draws thousands of visitors to its mediaeval streets and shady squares. The stunning scenery and the Mediterranean light has and for decades attracted artists to the area and Ceret features a world-famous art museum. The wider region offers mountain walks through stunning gorges; beach resorts from the rocky coves of the beautiful old fishing village of Collioure and the bays of Costa Brava to the long beaches of white sandy beaches of the Cote Vermeille; international festivals of classical music at Prades and folk music at Amelie; and of course a variety of local wines and dishes.
Unique benefits of the property
The house is in a secluded residential area but only five minutes drive from the town. You can spend the day in the spacious and secluded garden feeling your are swimming into the mountains; go for walks or cycle rides in the nearby cherry orchards or stroll into Ceret to a shady cafe or visit to the art museum, with works by Picasso, Matisse and Derain; explore one of the nearby vineyards and restaurants; visit Caracassone, Barcelona or Dali's house; go horseriding or snorkelling; or relax with the children on the beach or at the nearby boating lake with its adventure playground; or drive over to one of the resorts on the Costa Brava for a leisurely lunch of sardines in beach-side restaurant.
