Our 18th century watermill is situated in a quiet valley in Suisse Normande where the sound of the river and birdsong are usually the only sounds you will hear in this lovely location, a real antidote to the stress of modern living. Beautiful walks can be taken directly from the house as footpaths and quiet lanes lead in all directions. There are many attractions including Clecy (fifteen minute drive) where kayaking, pedaloes and climbing can be enjoyed. Clecy also has a superb golf course. The valley is a wildlife haven with wild roe deer, red squirrels, pine marten and wonderful bird watching. There are lovely gardens, castles, museums, art galleries and Second World War sites within easy driving distance. Two acre garden to relax, enjoy a drink or play badminton.

After a long drive or a great day out, our guests often enjoy a pot of tea or glass of wine in the garden and being an old watermill, the sound of water is always present. The whole two acres are there for you to enjoy anytime during your stay and when you're feeling more energetic why not play a game of badminton. We enjoy dark skies in this area, with no light pollution to spoil the fantastic view of the heavens - on warm, clear evenings we set up our 150mm telescope for you to marvel at the moon and stars.

Owner profile

About the owner
Having spent many wonderful holidays in France, we decided to live here permanently. We knew this part of Normandy very well and had always been enchanted by the beautiful scenery and friendly people. Having run an award-winning tearoom in England for some years, we felt that offering bed and breakfast in our own home in France would be a great way to meet people from around the UK and the world.

Year purchased: 2010

Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
It's so peaceful and unhurried; the roads are quiet, the wildlife is amazing, the people are lovely and welcoming. Although we live in a rural location, we can drive to many towns with excellent shopping and dining facilities in a very short time. Walking or cycling the lanes with few cars is a wonderful experience in any season.

Unique benefits of the property
Guests love the peace and natural surroundings, but with the convenience of being central to so many of the well known (and lesser known) attractions of this part of France. Being on such a lovely river as the Druance adds to the charm of the setting, and although we are situated in a valley, the site is very open with sunshine all day long. The garden is delightful and sitting on a seat by the river just listening to the sound of the water and the birds you feel a million miles away from the frantic life happening "somewhere out there".
