Situated close to the port area of the historic town of Dinan, the house looks out on a cobbled street leading from the riverfront to the ancient city walls. Dating back to the 15th century, this spacious half timbered house retains much of the character of a bygone age. Granite and oak floors exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings combine to give a timeless feel. Central heating and a wood burning stove make this a comfortable base at any time of the year. The house is spacious and airy and sleeps up to 8 people. Downstairs there is a twin bedroom, a double bedroom and bathroom/WC. Delightful courtyard. On the first floor there is a large sitting room/dining area with oak floor and fireplace, leading to a well equipped kitchen. On the next floor is a large family bedroom with a double and 1 single bed. At one end of the room is a Victorian roll top bath and freestanding washstand. At the other end of the room is a WC and a door leading out onto a terrace and a small garden area.

Our bookings normally run from 4pm Saturday to 10am the following Saturday. Other changeover days may be available - please ask!

Notes on accommodation
Parking is available a short distance away (public car park) and visitors can stop outside the house to unload luggage etc.
Accessibility
The house is situated on the 'Rue du Jerzual' which is a hill linking the port area to the old town centre, guests with mobility problems may not find this suitable.
Outside
Courtyard area with flagstones and table and chairs. Separate attractive garden with small lawn and flower beds and shrubs.
Coast/Beach
The beautiful North Brittany coast can be reached by car in 30 minutes from the house. There are a number of beautiful sandy beaches here as well as attractive coves and family oriented coastal towns. Our favourites include the beaches at Pen Guen and Saint Jacut, the towns of Dinard, Saint Malo and Saint Briac and the ruined castle and sandy coves of Chateau Guildo - a hidden gem!
Golf
There is a good number of excellent courses a short drive away from the gite, including Dinard (founded in 1887), St Malo, Pen Guen (St Cast) and Sables D'Or at Cap Frehel. Perhaps the best course is located at Pléneuf Val Andre, which should be on every golfers 'must play' list. As the language can sometimes be a barrier, we can liaise with the course on your behalf and book tee times for you so your golf is all arranged before you arrive.
Travel
The nearest airport is at Dinard, about 20 minutes by car, which has regular and cheap flights to the UK. The ferry port of Saint Malo is 30 minutes by car. Other ferry ports are at Roscoff (2 hours) and Cherbourg (2 hours).
Distances
The house is set in the old cobbled medieval street of Rue Du Petit Fort. This street links the port area of Dinan to the historic town centre area of Dinan. The street is on a hill with the town at the top, you can walk up to the town in about 7 minutes.
Further details
The port area and town of Dinan has been remarkably well preserved and contains many beautiful old buildings, as well as a medieval castle and impressive stone ramparts with high town gates. The town is proud of its heritage and promotes many activities throughout the year, and with a very good selection of restaurants attracting both locals and visitors alike. Unlike some locations , Dinan remains open throughout the year, Spring and Autumn are particularly good times to visit - good weather but less busy than the peak summer months.
The town invests signifcantly in promoting arts and cultural activities right through the year for all tastes.One of the highlights of the Dinan calendar is the Fete des Remparts - one of Europe's biggest medieval festivals - which takes place every two years in the third week in July ( the next one takes place July 2012). Other events include a weekend of live music in June , jousting on boats on the port, fireworks on July the 14th and a series of free open air jazz concerts in August.
Booking notes
Please contact us to make a booking by e mail or by phone. We ask for a 25% deposit to confirm a reservation. The balance of the rental is payable 8 weeks before your holiday. A £200 refundable damages deposit is due 2 weeks before your stay and refunded within a week after you leave.
The house will be clean and tidy upon your arrival, we ask you leave it in the same condition when you leave, or you can opt for our cleaning service.
