The town of Salernes has an outstanding produce market on both Sunday and Wednesday, but you could visit a bustling market in a local town almost every day. There is a lovely walk up to the ruins of the 13th Century Chateau and the town is famous for its ceramics, especially the little red 'tomettes'.
It is a typical picturesque French town with many shops, cafes and restaurants both in Salernes itself and in villages nearby. The village has everything you need including pharmacy, supermarkets, bakeries, newsagent, banks (with ATMs), post office and much more. There are many vineyards nearby, where you can experience wine tasting including the famous Chateau de Berne. There are many hiking tracks and cycling routes nearby.
Tourtour, a village of outstanding beauty, is 10km away. 3km to the North there is Chapelle St Barthelemy, a 16th century hermitage on a rock overlooking the Bresque River or there is the Cascade de Sillans, a dramatic waterfall that provides a very scenic walking experience. There are examples of grottos both in nearby Villecroze or in Cotignac.

Owner profile
About the owner
Hi, we are both English and fell in love with Salernes, when we bought our house in 2002. We both work long and hard hours in London and we were looking for a peaceful and tranquil place in which we could relax, home from home. We purposely did not fill the house with alarms, clocks, telephones or internet connections. We wanted somewhere we could cook, eat, play a game of cards and talk, maybe over a glass of wine or two. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Year purchased: 2002
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We visited Salernes in 2002 and fell in love with the town for its authenticity - truly it is a Provencal market town. It is not there for tourism alone, but has a real soul. Although bustling, especially on a Sunday, it is still small enough to wander around. We were keen to live in the heart of the town and close to shops, cafes and restaurants.
We both love exploring new restaurants and trying new food and wines, so being amongst good local restaurants was very important to us as well as being able to visit vineyards for tasting and buying local wines. This area is really best for reds and rose wine.
However, we also like to get out and visit other places of interest as well as going for a walk or cycle. The scenery is simply stunning.
Unique benefits of the property
The property offers a perfect place from which you can make the most of the local town of Salerne. Having a small, private roof terrace to enjoy a barbecue or a drink in the evening is all part of the relaxing ambiance.
