You will find this house in the small mediaeval town of Le Dorat in a quiet region north of Limoges. Le Dorat is classified as "small town with character". La Maison du Musicaïre is the private residence of the Dutch conductor Wim Baarens. Once you have passed the entrance, with its inviting heart above the doorway, carved in local granite, your are immediately struck by the overwhelming charm of the patio with its flowering wisteria and the large beautiful garden with an abundance of roses, herbs, fruit trees and a variety of other plants. This completely walled garden hides several small buildings including an orangerie, a horsestable and woodsheds. The beautiful ocre colors of the outside walls, the old round roman tiles and the split level garden give the impression that you are on holiday in Tuscany.

Changeover day
Arrival between 16 and 19 hours (unless arranged different hour in advance) At the departureday the room has to be free at 10 o'clock in the morning. You can of course stay in the sittingroom if you like.

"The Countess Marie d’Agoult Room" is named after the great, great, grand mother of Mr Baarens French wife Véronique (who also speaks fluently English). Marie d’Agoult was the 'enemy/friend' of the well known French female author Georges Sand and the mistress of the composer Franz Liszt. In the room you will find a portrait by Ingres. This room on the 1st floor has woodpanelling, a canopy bed, period furniture and is completely decorated in pastel colours.

"La Chambre du Musicaïre" (the musicians bedroom) has been completely restored to its original style of the end of the XVIIIth century. Here the colours are Venitian red for the beams and ocre for the walls. The original wooden floors in the famous stepladder style from the Dordogne have been completely restored and you can be assured of a deep sleep in the attractive period canopied bed. Two large French doors open directly onto the terrace and the garden where, during the summer, your French breakfast will be served.

Dinner on reservation. Bathrooms with private toilet en suite.
Extra room without bathroom available to combine with one of the two other rooms! Non smoking rooms.

Outside
Complete closed and private garden with fountain, lots of fruit-trees and at least 25 different roses (3000 M2).

Coast/Beach
2 hours drive from La Rochelle or Royan.

Golf
International golf course in Limoges (45 minutes by car).

As Mr Baarens is a well known Dutch conductor, there is a lot of possibilities to talk about or to listen to classical music.

Travel
30 miles from Limoges Bellegarde International Airport with daily connections to England, Scotland and Ireland by Ryanair or FlyBe and to Paris by Air France. 55 miles from Poitiers Airport. Local railway station with a 3 hour connection by Poitiers to Paris. We can pick you up from airport or station.

Distances
Limoges 35 miles, Paris 250 miles, Dordogne 2 hours. Ideal 'stop' to go to the south nearby the motorway A 20 (17 miles).

Further details
Several restaurants and pubs, 2 banks, supermarket, doctors etc. Local Limoges porcelaine factory with shop from the trademark Philippe & Yves Deshoulières.
