About the owner
We live in Wales with our 7 year old Border Collie Tasha. James is a nurse in the local hospital whilst I work as a regeneration manager at the local council. We enjoy good food and going on holiday. We have family in Lancashire, London and Alsace and moved to Wales after living in France for two years.
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We fell in love with the little house with the blue shutters and couldn't wait to buy it. The house came with land and barns and was a real escape for us after the years we had spent in London. We lived in Chez Bertet for two years while we renovated the farmhouse, grew veggies and made wine. In 2005 we moved back to the UK and since then we have rented the house to guests and enjoyed many happy family holidays ourselves. Chez Bertet is a quiet friendly place and we are lucky to have wonderful neighbours. We love relaxing on the patio on a warm evening with a glass of wine and enjoy having beautiful beaches, markets and historic towns within easy reach. It is a special place, rustic and full of charm, a real place to get away from modern life.
Unique benefits of the property
The local town St Savinien is only 3kms away - a short bike ride - and we enjoy eating good food at the restaurants and cycling back afterwards on the quiet lanes. As well as the main house we also own the land across the road which has fruit trees and the vineyard. There is nothing like eating a fresh peach or fig from the tree on a warm summer evening. The house is easily accessible with La Rochelle airport less than an hours drive away.
