Near the border of the Dordogne in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, the property has been tastefully converted from a large stone barn into beautiful gite accommodation with private pool, tennis court, table tennis pool table.
The property has been described as “one of the most prestigious properties in the area”. Situated on top of a hill at the end of a quiet no through lane on an acre of landscaped gardens, one of the attractions is the view from the front aspect facing east over the Dropt valley below. In the distance you can see the ancient town of Duras. A twenty minute stroll takes you into the small bastide town centre of Monsegur (33). Around the square there are bars, restaurants, boulangerie, pharmacy, paper shop/tabac, banks with ATM's and a coffee shop that make their own chocolates, superb! Also a very popular weekly market. La Maison Montignac and facilities are completely private for your use during your stay.

Accessibility
For guests that have disabilities, the very young or for the older, most of the property is on the ground floor, this includes 4 of the bedrooms. There aren’t many steps around the property generally being just 1 or 2 stone steps. Wheel chair friendly to an extent, please call us to discuss further your requirements.

Coast/Beach
90 mins away is the 150 mile long sandy beach at Arcachon and Biscarosse (great surfing). 30 mins away at Blasimon is a fresh water lake with nice sandy beach. The property is an ideal central location to explore the area. Set in the Bordeaux wine region, Bordeaux city is 1 hour away, Bergerac is 40 mins, Dordogne is 30 mins.

Golf
There are various golf courses in the area. The best is a 30 minute drive away at the superb Chateau des Vigiers golf & country club. The 18 hole par 72 course was created by Donald Steel. Facilities also include a beauty centre/spa and restaurant. Other local courses are also available within 30 mins drive.

Travel
Airports: Bordeaux - 1 hours drive. Bergerac - 40 mins drive. Toulouse - 2 hours. There are many routes from the UK being serviced by a handful of carriers. TGV train stops at either Libourne (45 mins drive) or Bordeaux station (1 hour drive). All the main car hire companies are available from these destinations. To drive from the northern French ferry ports, approximately 550 miles from Calais, Caen 430 miles.

Distances
Local supermarkets are located in Duras 2 miles or Monsegur 4 miles. Open all day Mon- Sat till 8pm and 9am - 1pm Sundays (times may differ on French holidays). Large hypermarkets all within 20 mins drive at La Reole or Marmande.

Further details
Monségur and Duras are pretty XIII century Bastide towns set around a market square which host weekly markets and also a weekly night market within the peak summer season. There are also many local festivals throughout the year. There are cafés, bars, boulangeries, pharmacy, supermarkets and banks. The bars, restaurants and shops that surround the square are covered by stone vaulted archways.
The views surrounding Monsegur are nothing but beautiful countryside and the meandering river Dropt. At the eastern part of this hill is the rural area of Montignac. At the end of the promontory looking out over the Dropt valley is the house, La Maison Montignac. In the far distance set on another hill is the castle of Duras, this is lit up at night giving a fantastic vista across the valley. Laying in bed at night in the 'Master bedroom' you have a clear line of sight all night to the lit up castle in the distance. Locally there are too many historic sites and attractions to list here but the house contains many leaflets and information of what's on. Locally there are many historic sites and attractions to visit. Information can be obtained from the local tourist information office located in Monsegur. A local nature trail (pole nature) is just a minutes walk from the house, this takes you from the house down and along the river then up to the town via the old ramparts, then maybe a cold beer or glass of wine in the square? and a slow walk back to the house.
