Le Vieux Café was once the hub of village life as it was a restaurant, café and grocery store. Now, fully restored, it is a large comfortable family holiday home. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one newly fitted at the end of 2011) and a fully equipped kitchen. A laptop with free secure WiFi intrnet access is provided. There is a great games room with Xbox 360, table tennis, and hundreds of games, books and DVDs. In the large gardens you will find a 12 x 7m heated swimming pool, a boules court, swings and picnic tables. The house is located on high ground and has un-interrupted views across the local Marais, where you will see lots of wildlife - buzzards, herons, horses, frogs, boar and deer. The house is geared towards families and a cot, high chair, stairgate, plastic crockery and cutlery are all provided for your use. This house shares the pool with our 2 bed holiday home - L'Ecurie. All bed linens and towels are provided (except pool/beach towels).

Notes on prices
Prices are per house per week, not per person. This price includes all bed linens and towels, except pool towels.
If paying in Sterling, an exchange rate will be calculated on the day of your reservation.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday from Easter until the end of September. From October until the end of March we can be more flexible - with long weekend breaks, short stays of two or more days and long winter lets. Ask for more price details for these options.

Bedrooms: Master bedroom with double bed and cot.
Bedroom 2 has double bed or 2 single beds.
Bedroom 3 has 2 single beds. A 3rd single bed can be added if required, and 2 singles can be made up into a double.
There is a double sofabed in the lounge.
Bathrooms: There is a newly re-fitted shower room on the ground floor with shower cubicle, WC and hand basin.
On the first floor there is a bathroom, with full sized bath, overhead shower and hand basin and a separate WC.
Towels are provided.
Kitchen: The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric cooker, ceramic hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. There is a dining table with 6 chairs - this can be extended to seat 8 if required.Tea towels are provided.
Utility Room: A full set of cleaning equipment is available as well as an iron and board.
Living Rooms: The living room has comfortable seating for 6 guests. There is a new 32'' Flat screen TV with UK and French satellite channels, a laptop with free secure WiFi access, stereo and DVD player. The sofa converts into a double sofabed.
Other: There is a large games room that comes complete with Xbox 360 & games, table tennis, board games, books, lego/duplo, dressing up clothes & a large selection of childrens / adult DVDs. For the more energetic guests, we have a gym with bikes & rowers.

All bed linens and bath/hand/tea towels are provided during your holiday, but please bring your own pool and beach towels. The house is made clean and tidy for your arrival, and it is expected to be left in the same condition by departing guests.

Notes on accommodation
The pool, gardens and games room are shared with our other 2 bedroom property - L'Ecurie.

Le Vieux Café is a large semi-detached house - with the owners, Annette and Jason, living next door. There is plenty of private outside space for everyone and also areas where everyone can socialise together.

The house is located on a quiet side road in the village of Lairoux, and there are large gates that can be closed for the added security of younger children.

A selection of bikes are available for your use.

Accessibility
The house would be suitable for guests with limited mobility as there is a ground floor WC, shower room and bed (sofabed). It is not suitable for wheelchair access as there is a large gravel courtyard and some steps to the pool and gardens.

Outside
In front of the house is a private barbecue area, with seating, a table, large parasol and charcoal Weber BBQ. There is also a large covered terrace that can be used - in front of the owners part of the house.

The gardens are on four levels - with the top level having a large gravel courtyard for parking up to 6 cars, along with a lawned area and boules court.
A gentle slope takes you down to the pool area - which is securely fenced off. Opposite the pool is the games room which will keep the children of all ages amused! The gym is also located on this level - with bikes, rower, cross trainer and weights!

Down a few steps and you will find the organic vegetable plot - depending upon the season, guests can sample the fruits & vegetables!

Down another gentle slope and you reach the large lawned garden, with swings, picnic tables and a large space for running around and kicking a ball.

All the outside spaces are shared with the owners and one other holiday home.

Coast/Beach
The lovely sandy beaches of the southern Vendée are only a 15 minute drive away. There are miles of long beaches and many have entertainment and activities laid on during the summer months. There is a wide variety of beach - some for body boarding or surfing, some for rock-pooling and other for relaxing or building sand castles. All have good parking and most have cafés, toilets and seaside towns nearby.

Golf
The Vendée has 5 golf courses and the closest is only a 35 minute drive away - La Domangère. You can book in advance or turn up on the day. Club hire is available.

Travel
Our village is approximately 1 hour from Nantes airport and 45 minutes from La Rochelle - both of which are served by budget airlines such as Ryanair, Jet2 and Easyjet. Car hire is available.

The ferry ports of Northern France start from only 3.5 hours away. St Malo is the closest and is served by both Brittany Ferries and Condor Ferries. Caen is 5 hours, Cherbourg is 5.5 hours, Le Havre is 6 hours and Calais with its ferries and EuroTunnel is only 6.5 hours away.

Distances
Le Vieux Café is only a 10 minute drive to Luçon which has many supermarkets, restaurants, banks, cafés and entertainment. There is a lovely central park and the old cathedral is worth a visit.
La Rochelle is only 40 minutes away - with an aquarium, harbour side restaurants and lots of boutiques and shops. The ile de Ré is a good day out for cycling, the beaches and generally relaxing.
The famous Puy du Fou theme park is only 1 hour away, where you will see gladiators, knights and Vikings!

Further details
The Futuroscope theme park in Poitiers is also only a 90-minute drive away, where you can experience the world of 3D cinema and exciting virtual reality
rides. A great day out and fun for all the family.

For a more tranquil day out, the Marais Poitevin is only 60 mins away. Here you will find the famous ‘Venise Verte’ with its miles of canals and waterways. A great place to stop off is Coulon where you can hire a boat for the morning before sampling some of the local specialties at the many little restaurants scattered along the canal banks.

The Vendée has a well-kept secret - lots of locally produced wines that are great for drinking now! We are only minutes away from the Fief Vendéen wine route which starts in the pretty town of Mareuil sur Lay and wine tasting afternoons can be arranged with some of the local wine producers.

For those looking for more leisurely activities, there are some fantastic country walks, bird watching facilities and prehistoric monuments to explore all within half an hour of Lairoux.

Booking notes
A 30% deposit is required to secure your booking, with the remaining 70% being paid 8 weeks prior to your holiday.

A £100 security deposit is also required to cover any damages. Payment can be made in Sterling or Euros, by either cheque or direct bank transfer.

About the owner
We moved to France from Jersey at the end of August 2006 and spent the next 6 months renovating, decorating and furnishing our two holiday homes. We were ready just in time for Easter 2007 and we haven't looked back since! We've met some great guests along the way, and many have returned several times! Many of our friends own gites as well, and several have asked us to manage the marketing & reservations side for them, so we now look after a further 25 houses! Jason has also set up a company to install and repair computers and he has customers all over France - mostly Ex-pats who need a helping hand. We share our house with 4 cats - Delilah, Buster, Fleur and Marble - and they all get on very well with the guests - especially the children!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Wewere living in Jersey and decided that it was time for a change! So, having visited France several times on holiday, we thought that we'd take the huge step of moving over here and setting up a business. The Lairoux area is great - close to a wide variety of beaches and not far from La Rochelle, La Roche sur Yon or Nantes airport. The village is very peaceful - with a few fêtes and celebrations throughout the year. The surrounding countryside is great for walking and cycling and there is a great variety of wildlife to be seen throughout the year. We have some unusual migratory birds that visit the flooded winter marshlands nearby.

Unique benefits of the property
The house is in a quiet location, but is not remote - we are in the centre of the village, but in a little side road - so there is no passing traffic. We have stunning views from the gardens towards the Marais (marshlands) and in winter the scenery changes dramatically as the Marais floods and we have a giant lake at the bottom of the garden! The house is in an ideal location for visiting the coast with its many beaches and seaside towns. It's nice to be able to visit the coast - but just as nice to step away from the hustle and bustle and relax in the gardens - sipping a glass of local wine whilst sitting next to the pool!
